Sonja Ann Mills Harmon

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at Holy Cross Catholic Church for Sonja Ann Mills Harmon, 86, who passed away on August 17, 2024. Rev. Father Mario Romero, Pastor of Holy Cross Catholic Church, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Cemetery, 2111 Pinhook Rd, Lafayette, LA. One of God’s true servants, Sonja was the daughter of the late John Mills and the former Pearl Rills Naquin and was raised in Opelousas, LA. After graduating from Opelousas High School, she married her high school sweetheart, Ernest R. Harmon. After a short time living and working in Houma, LA, they moved to Lafayette where together they built a strong family of eight, full of laughter, love, and endless amounts of food and family gatherings. Sonja picked up a lot from her trickster husband and was a witty, clever, hardworking woman who not only raised, but truly anchored an incredible family. Her fun-loving playful spirit was always ready for a good laugh, especially over coffee and playing dominoes. Sonja never met a stranger and was loved by all. She would often be found putting her life on hold to care for others, always caring about donating blood for strangers, visiting the infirmed, taking care of her grandchildren, all while working and running a busy household. She was a true angel in every sense of the word and loved bringing old and new friends together and making them lifelong friendships. Sonja was such a strong woman but would never hurt a flea. Some of her besties were her favorite lizard friends she would look for on her breezeway. Music really lit up Sonja as her favorite pastime was dancing to Fats Domino or jitterbugging to any song that would allow. She was the life of the party during her time living at The Blake and Camelot. Those left to cherish her beautiful memory are her children, Kevin Harmon and his wife Lisa, Damon and his wife Janice, Shawn Harmon, Alicia Harmon, Rachel and her husband Neal Hensarling, Brandon Harmon and his wife Rae; sister, Eleanor “Skeets” Carbajal; and half-brother, Cliff Mills. She leaves 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grands. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Ernest Ray Harmon; great-grandson, Noah; mother, Pearl Rills Naquin; father, John Mills; and brother, Samuel Evans Love. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home – Bertrand from 4:00 PM - 9:00 PM on Monday, August 19, 2024. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM on Monday evening in the funeral home. Visiting hours will continue on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at Holy Cross Catholic Church from 10:00 AM until the 12: 00 PM service. Pallbearers will be Kevin Harmon, Damon Harmon, Shawn Harmon, Brandon Harmon Sr, Joshua Arceneaux, Kyle Harmon, Richard Hensarling, and Matthew Hensarling. Honorary pallbearers include: Marcel Bergeron, Lonny Chesnut, Brandon Harmon Jr., and Elijah Perkins.
