Steven Louis Rodrigue

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Lafayette, 1100 Lee Ave, Lafayette, LA, 70501 for Steven Louis Rodrigue, 51, who passed away in an accident on June 8, 2013. Dr. Steve Horn, Pastor of First Baptist Church of Lafayette, will conduct the funeral services. Mr. Rodrigue, a resident of Lafayette, was the son of the late Louis Joseph "L.J." Rodrigue and the former Irene Juso. Steven was a native of White Castle, LA and was born on August 21, 1961. He graduated from White Castle High School in 1979, where he played football, basketball, baseball, and was a member of the band. Steven was affectionately called "Joe Willie" by many friends and family. In 1984, he graduated from LSU with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. He spent the early years of his career in the oil field industry before joining Cargill Salt in Breaux Bridge, LA. He was an exceptional and valued employee at Cargill for 23 years. Steven was a loving husband for 20 years and an extraordinary father to Joseph and John. He is remembered by all as a man of the highest integrity. He had a great joy for life and was full of laughter. Steven was the family "storyteller," as we all loved to listen and laugh with him. Everyone appreciated that he was available anytime to lend a helping hand and he was loving, patient, and kind to all. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, golf, and coaching his sons' baseball and basketball teams. Steven will be greatly missed, but we know that "Joy is not the absence of pain, but the presence of Christ." He is survived by his wife, Gail Claire Guidry Rodrigue of Lafayette, LA; his two sons, Joseph William Rodrigue and John Louis Rodrigue both of Lafayette, LA; his mother, Mrs. Irene Rodrigue of White Castle, LA; two sisters, Laurene and her husband Michael LeCoq and Angie and her husband Mason Druhan; three brothers, Rodney Rodrigue and his wife Donna, Lynn Rodrigue and his wife Nicole and Michael Rodrigue and his wife Heidi; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Louis Joseph Rodrigue. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at First Baptist Church of Lafayette on Saturday, June 15, 2013 from 11:00 am until the time of service.
