Sue Carol Marie Mathews

Sue Carol Marie Mathews (88 yrs.) entered eternal life in the early hours of March 22, 2024. She was born December 5, 1935 to Raymond and Lucille Betzinger in Menominee Michigan. After graduating from high school, she attended cosmetology school and practiced as a hair stylist and later became an instructor. On January 15, 1984 she married Vernon Mathews. Sue was a member of Trinity Bible Church for 18 years and became a dedicated student of the Bible. Anyone who knew Sue clearly understood she lived life on her own terms. In high school she was a baton twirling majorette in the band. Over the years Sue lived in many cities and homes across the country. Rooms got a fresh coat of paint and were embellished with the latest trendy wall treatments. Her home and yard were her castle and she enjoyed enhancing it. She always got to know her neighbors establishing many close friendships which she maintained for years. Once her home was to her liking often times, she would dream up some new business adventure that left many of us wondering. “What on earth is she doing now?” She had a knack for giving very quirky gifts with the best of intentions. When opening the gift, one never really knew what to expect. Just smile and say “thank you”. She could always be found busy with one project or another. Sue is preceded in death by her son George Anthony Harteau, her parents and her two sisters. She is survived by her husband of 40 years Vernon Mathews, two children Connie Sanders and David Hedstrom, four grandchildren Jesse Brazier, Bo Sanders, Nicole and Corey Hedstrom, four great- grandchildren and a great great grandchild on the way. Can’t forget her grand dog Toby who was always ready to go see grandma. Sue would be honored for any donation to be made to Trinity Bible Church, 130 E Broussard Rd, Lafayette LA 70503. Psalm 139 tells me I was knit together in my mother’s womb; my life was planned and my days were allotted before there was ever one of them. So was yours, my friend. You are God’s significant creation, born out of His great love. To know that you are here on this earth on purpose and not by accident is both motivating and inspiring. May God Bless you.
