Suzanne Robin Greenwood

Suzanne Robin Greenwood, 68, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Suzanne was born in Hessmer, Louisiana to Clarence Joseph Robin and Emma Marie Neck. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Bobby Lynn Greenwood; two sons, Bryan Lynn Greenwood and his wife, Evelyn, of Baton Rouge and Eric Lynn Greenwood and his wife, Lisa, of Lafayette; three sisters, her twin, Melanie Moreau of Hessmer, Clare Wilson of Jena and Marilyn Scallan of Bunkie; a sister-in-law, Betty Robertson of Baton Rouge, four grandsons and one granddaughter, Everett, Elliott, Sam, Joseph, and Amelie; a nephew, Robin, and five nieces, Missy, Carla, Lauren, Nell and Cydney along with a host of great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her nephew, Gordon Douglas Robertson, II. Suzanne graduated as Salutatorian from Hessmer High School in 1958 and LSU in Home Economics Education in 1962. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. Her public service included LSU Cooperative Extension Service Agent in Rapides Parish, Lafayette Parish Office of Family Support, Lafayette Parish School Board as a second grade teacher for 22 years, and Cajun Area Agency on Aging as an ombudsman and nutrition coordinator. A career highlight included national recognition as a faculty member of Woodvale Elementary, a Presidential School of Excellence. Suzanne's passion for making friends was a routine part of her daily life as well as a fierce commitment to her community and family. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, a 32 year member of the St. Mary Church Choir, a member of the Krewe of the Attackapas, a member of the founding school board of St. Thomas More High School, a member of the founding board of the St. Mary Early Learning Center, a cub scout den mother, a 4-H volunteer leader, and a member of the St. Rita Rosary Group for over 20 years. Her annual Christmas Eve open house was eagerly anticipated by both children and adults, especially her homemade candy and sugar cookies. Suzanne used her professional life to make a commitment to education. Her selflessness and willingness to help others on an individual basis left a legacy felt by many in the Lafayette area. Both former students and their parents remember her with gratitude and fondness. Her own memory was vivid and extensive, as she was able to recall the name of every one of her students along with the details of their escapades in her classrooms. Because Suzanne was an educator for life, she took exceptional pride in observing the educational milestones of her five grandchildren. She spoke often of their hard work ethic in school and held them all highly accountable for their performance in and out of the classroom. Her immense love for them is irreplaceable. Services for Suzanne include visitation Saturday beginning at noon followed by a funeral mass at 2:00 p.m. St. Mary Catholic Church, conducted by Fr Harold Trahan.
