Tillie Odom Nixon

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 22, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Asbury United Methodist Church for Tillie Odom Nixon, 81, who passed away Saturday, February 17, 2007 at Lafayette General Medical Center. Reverend Ira Robinson and Reverend Ann Sutton, Associate Pastors of Asbury United Methodist Church will conduct the funeral services. Musical selections will be provided by Jan and Lee Cooke and the Cursillo singers. Committal service will take place at 2:00 PM in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Nixon, a native of Petal, Mississippi and a resident of Lafayette, was the daughter of the late John Luther Odom of Runnlestum, Mississippi and the former Lora Catherine Ware of Beezer, Mississippi. Tillie was loved by many people and was known for her devotion to her family and Asbury Church. She was a member of the Ladies Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women, Energizers, Acadiana Cursillo, Asbury Administrative Board, United Christian Outreach Board, St. Joseph's Diner, Sustaining prayer chain, Meal on Wheels, Wednesday AM Prayer Group, numerous Bible studies, and delivered countless dishes to the sick and shut-ins. She was instrumental in her granddaughter Ellen's life from day one. Ellen attended many of Tillie's meetings at the church at an early age. She was always special in the eyes of her grandmother and was loved and supported in anything she attempted. She was so proud that Ellen was close to graduating from ULL. She will be missed by all, but will always have a place in our memories. We know that she is at home with the Lord. She is survived by her daughter, Faye Beth Nixon Jones of Glade Park, CO; her son, J.C. Nixon, Jr. of Lafayette; four grandchildren, Ellen Page Nixon of Lafayette, Jill Denise Jennings Wiegert of Durango, CO, Charles Todd Jennings of Grand Junction, CO and Chad Curtis Jennings of Denver, CO; four great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Cameron and Kaitlin Wiegert and Sawyer Jennings; two sisters, Grace Cook of Hattiesburg, MS and Catherine Odom Rushing of Tylertown, MS; and one brother, Sammie Rushing of Tylertown, MS. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, J.C. 'Jim' Nixon, Sr.; one sister, Lora Nell Fleck; and one brother, Rudolph Odom, Sr. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Love Fund of the church or U.C.O Building Fund. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Asbury United Methodist Church Thursday from 9:00 AM until time of service at 11:00 AM.
