Funeral Services will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for Mr. Timothy Dean Edwards, 56, who passed away on July 22, 2017. Bishop Ryan Nelson will conduct the funeral service. Mr. Edwards, a resident of Youngsville, was the son of the late James Edwards and the former Aleta McWilliams, and the stepson of the late Ben Smith. Tim was born on March 25, 1961 in Houston and was the youngest of four boys. He graduated from Grand Prairie High School near Dallas and attended Brigham Young University in Salt Lake City, Utah. Athletically inclined from an early age, Tim excelled in every sport he tried including golf, football, baseball, kickboxing, cycling and AAU powerlifting. He had a black belt in Shotokan karate and worked as a professional golf instructor, accompanying his stepdad, senior PGA tour champion Ben Smith around the world. Together they enjoyed playing golf with celebrities, dignitaries and diplomats on some of the most exclusive private golf clubs in the country. Tim played golf regularly in Dallas with former President George W. Bush. Ever up for a challenge, Tim cycled across the United States and several countries in Europe. He owned a personal fitness gym, a sports apparel business and produced fitness equipment. Most recently, he was a sales distributor with Savoie’s Cajun Foods. He is survived by his fiancée, Cheryl Robichaux; his brothers, James Daniel "Dan" Edwards and wife Marsha, Michael Douglas Edwards, and Anthony David Edwards; and numerous nieces and nephews. His parents preceded him in death. The family requests that viewing and visiting hours be observed at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Saturday, July 29, 2017 from 10:30AM to 12:30PM. Immediately following the visitation, the service will held in the main sanctuary of the church beginning at 1:00PM at 116 E. Bluebird Drive, Lafayette, La 70508. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Elder Timothy Edwards authored “This Mormon’s Book, This Christian’s Testimony,” a presentation of factual doctrinal position and historical material that sustained and inspired his testimony of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
