Timothy James Mahoney

Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, August 19th, 2013 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Timothy James Mahoney, 63, who passed away on August 15th, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his beloved wife and family. Reverend Richard Potts, Pastor of Liberty Baptist Church in Franklin, North Carolina, will conduct the funeral services Mr. Mahoney, a resident of Lafayette, was son of the late Edward Mahoney and the former Mary Weaver. Tim was born in New Orleans and moved to Lafayette in the early seventies. He received a Bachelors of Arts degree with honors from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and went on to pursue graduate studies at Virginia Tech and attended LSU law school. For over 35 years Mr. Mahoney has been involved in Oil and Gas industry including exploration, production, development, acquisitions and divestiture of oil and gas properties and prospects. Tim fell in love with the Blue Ridge Mountains while attending Virginia Tech in the late 70’s. For the past 20 years he and his wife Melinda spent summers with their families in Highlands, North Carolina. Melinda and Tim eventually built a home there where they would spend half the year. Tim loved to hike the trails around Whiteside Cove. He gave his love of the outdoors to all his family and friends. He knew the name of every tree, shrub, and flower in the woods and loved to share his knowledge with all who hiked with him. He was dearly loved by all the “mountain folks” and the friends he and Melinda met in these beautiful mountains. His presence will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife, Melinda McLean Mahoney of Lafayette, LA; three sons, Christopher Baus Mahoney and wife Candace of Lafayette, LA, Michael Baus Mahoney of Youngsville, LA, Timothy “Tozie” Mahoney, II of Lafayette, LA: two step daughters, Marion Marsh of Houston, TX and Melissa Marsh of Monroe, LA; one step son, Hugh Marsh of Houston, TX; three grandchildren, Bella Corinne Mahoney, Cohen Christopher Mahoney, Nora Leigh James Mahoney; two sisters, Marleen Sirgo and husband Rene and Patricia Lovo and husband Fernando; two brothers, Michael Dennis Mahoney and wife Daria and Hugh Dennis Mahoney and his wife Elizabeth; many nieces and nephews and his yellow lab and constant companion “Bogey”. He preceded in death by his parents. Special thanks to Dr. Douglas Evans and his staff at Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin, Dr. Joseph E Brierre, Dr. Henri Kaufman, Dr. Joseph Pearson, and Hospice of Acadiana especially his nurse Iggy. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Sunday, August 18th, 2013 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm. Visiting hours will continue on Monday from 12:00pm till the time of service.
