Valerie Lynn Young

We are deeply saddened of the unexpected passing of our beautiful Valerie Lynn Young, 28, who passed away peacefully on June 14, 2023, due to complications with pneumonia. A private ceremony for the family was held June 17, 2023, at Delhomme Funeral Home in Maurice, Louisiana. Interment took place at St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Valerie was a resident of New Orleans where she enjoyed the art, music, nightlife, culture, and diversity of the city. She often enjoyed bike riding and watching the beautiful sunrises and sunsets. She found peace in nature and simple ways of life and often thought adults complicated the world too much. Valerie loved to travel to experience different cultures and ways of life. She was extremely free spirited, adventurous and curious and was not afraid to try other things. Valerie was very caring and compassionate and often deeply felt the heartaches and sorrows of others and could see the beauty and value in all people. She was an avid reader seeking knowledge of the philosophy of life and how the mind works. She had a very unique way of expressing her thoughts and experiences in words and eventually wanted to write a book about her life. Valerie felt blessed to be in our family where she was loved by so many cousins and family members. She is survived by her mother, Vanessa Mercier Crow; step-father, Mike Crow; father, Steve Young; siblings: Phillip Young, Mark Crow, Shanna Crow, Ryan Crow; grandparents: Bonnie and Leo Mercier; cousins: Elliott Mercier (Stephanie), Emily Mercier, Jake Mercier, Molly Mercier, Josie Ipoch (Cody), Sydney Mercier, Chuck Stewart and Elizabeth Stewart; aunts and uncles; Kent and Maria Mercier, Kurt and Charla Mercier, Todd and Kelli Mercier, and Troy and Laura Mercier; and friends, Michael Landin and Heather Martin. She was an aunt to Braeden Crow, Rayna Crow and Blake Reeves. She was preceded in death by her brother, Matthew Ryan Young; grandfather, Billy “Grumps” Young; grandmother, Louann “Lo” Young, step-grandfather, Joseph Crow, step-grandmother, Bonnie Crow, and friend William Rosario. Opening and closing prayer service was led by Troy and Laura Mercier. Pallbearers were Mark Crow, Jake Mercier, Elliot Mercier, Cody Ipoch, Kent Mercier, Kurt Mercier, Todd Mercier and Michael Landin.
