Verna Mae Leger

A Liturgy of the Word will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday August 30th, 2023 at Delhomme Funeral Homes' Chapel of the Flowers to celebrate the life of Verna Mae Leger, 93 years old, the former Verna Mae Thibodeaux, who passed away on Sunday, August 27th, 2023 at Camelot of Broussard nursing home. Services will be officiated by her nephew, Fr. Kenneth Domingue, Pastor of St. John Berchman Catholic Church - Cankton, LA. The eulogy will be read by her nephew, Pastor Carlton Benton of Living Glory - Lafayette, LA. Lectors will be her great-granddaughter, Graci Vitte (Mamaw's little princess); granddaughter, Brittni Vitte; and grandson, Brody Leger. Verna was the Co-Owner and Operator of Ned Leger's Meat Market upon her retirement. Verna enjoyed cooking and being around her grandkids and great-grandkids. When Verna wasn't doing anything, she was either praying the Rosary or watching EWTN. She was a very devout Catholic who attended Daily Mass almost her entire life. Verna was an Honorary Member of the DeLasalle Christian Brothers, and she also baked desserts for the Brother's weekly and special occasions. She was also well known with the Sister's at the Carmelite Monastery where she would go visit the Chapel twice a week. For the last 20 years, Verna lived at the home of her son, Earl. She enjoyed being able to see her grandkids and great-grandkids daily, and loved when her grandson would go over in the evenings, sit on her lap, and they would watch the Rodeo together. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Ned Leger; her parents Mr. and Mrs. Ovide Thibodeaux; and her sisters, Marjoie Savage and Cebia Patin. She is survived by a sister, Margaret Patin; brother, Sidney Thibodeaux; two sons, Russell and his wife Patsy Leger; Earl and his wife Cheryl Leger; 4 granddaughters, Chantelle Leger, Kristen Leger, Brittni Vitte and her husband Ryan Vitte, Bethani Leger and her fiance Caleb Robinson; one grandson Brody Leger; 3 great-grandchildren, Kasia Rene' Leger, Graci Marie Vitte, and Wyatt Thomas Vitte; her longtime best friend and travel companion, Mrs. Sadie Cormier; and numerous nieces & nephews. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 from 9:00 AM - 2:45 PM. A Rosary will be recited at 11:00 AM Wednesday morning in the funeral home by Marshall Miller with the Msgr. Teurlings KoC Council 3202. Pallbearers will be Brody Leger, Chantelle Leger, Ryan Vitte, Caleb Robinson, Kelvin Thibodeaux and Marshall Miller. Honorary Pallbearers will be Brent Thibodeaux, Zachary Thibodeaux, Tyler Thibodeaux, David Domingue, and David Solis.
