Virginia May Bowman Pickett

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, September 25, 2009 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Virginia Pickett, 84, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whom was called to rest in the Lord's presence Saturday, September 19, 2009 at Lafayette General Medical Center. Reverend Larry Reeves will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Virginia May Bowman was born on July 15, 1925 in Wichita, KS, graduated from Wichita North High School in 1943 and attended the University of Wichita. She met the love of her life, George William Pickett, at a USO dance and married on March 9, 1946. The oil industry took George and Virginia to Long Beach, CA and then to Lafayette in 1950. She was a resident of Lafayette for 52 years. She moved to Houston in 1998 to be close to family and returned to Lafayette in 2005 as a resident of Magnolia Estates. Virginia was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and enjoyed piano, gardening, genealogy, and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren. She was a kind and caring person with a lively spirit and love of family. Virginia is survived by her two sons, Kendall Pickett and wife, Kay Kuchenbaucker Pickett of Spring, TX and Gregory Pickett and wife, Marilyn Groner Pickett, of Lafayette, LA. She has five grandchildren, Bryan Pickett of Shoreacres, TX; Kelley Dockray and husband, Nathaniel, of Kingwood, TX; Philip Pickett of Spring, TX; Saul Pickett and Kevin Pickett of Lafayette, LA. She has two great grandchildren, Maddalen Dockray of Kingwood, TX and Patricia Nowel of Alamogordo, NM. She is also survived by three sisters, Marguerite Douglas of Renton, WA; Catherine Lamb of Wichita, KS; and Beatrice Bowman of Oceanview, HI, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Pickett, her parents, Noble Porter Bowman and Alice Rebecca Moffat Bowman, and her brother, Kendall Lee Bowman of Wichita, KS. The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Thursday, September 24, 2009 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm and will resume on Friday at 10:00 am until time of service at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette. Memorial contributions can be made in the name of Virginia Pickett to Episcopal School of Acadiana, Post Office Box 380, Cade, LA 70519. The family wishes to express their gratitude to all the staff at Magnolia Estates for their care and compassion in taking care of Virginia these past four years and the numerous caregivers and doctors, especially Dr. Kenneth McCarron.
