Vita Mae Colletta Poimboeuf, 95, passed away in Lafayette, LA in the early morning hours of Saturday, June 14, 2025. A memorial to honor her life will be held at a later date. Vita will always be remembered for the deep and unwavering love she had for her family. Her life centered around her role as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She found joy and purpose in caring for her loved ones, offering not just meals and comfort but a steadfast presence that anchored the family through many seasons of life. Whether it was staying up late to listen, offering a word of advice, or simply sitting to share a moment together, she made her family feel seen, valued, and deeply loved. While she helped with the family businesses, the Forest Motel and Restaurant, and her late husband’s TV repair business, when needed, her true calling was as a homemaker. She found fulfillment in the everyday rhythms of life—cooking, cleaning, and creating a home where everyone felt safe and cared for. Holidays were significant to her, and her memory lives on in many of the dishes she prepared and gift-giving, knowing how much joy it brought her family then and for years to come. Vita also had a curious mind. A passionate reader, she transitioned from hardcover novels to her Kindle in later years. She embraced technology with ease, often surprising others with how “plugged in” she was—whether online shopping for the perfect outfit or researching topics that caught her interest. Vita was creative and challenged herself through sewing and crafts. Her grandchildren fondly remember her talent for crafting paper dolls out of catalog pages—a simple but memorable kind of magic she made just for them. She will also be fondly remembered for her graceful self-care—always dressed, hair styled, and make-up applied, even if she wasn’t planning to leave the house. Sure, there may have been a touch of vanity—she liked to look good, and she did—but that was just part of who Vita was. Even if she had nowhere to be, she believed in looking presentable—if not for others, then at least for herself… she was undoubtedly an early adopter of self-care and self-worth! Her legacy lives on not just in the things she did, but in the quiet, steady way she loved—with warmth, devotion, and her whole heart. She is survived by her five children, Brian (Doylene), Keith, Barry (Corinne), Carla Dugas (Brad), and Laurie; her six grandchildren, Jordan Poimboeuf, Virginia Poimboeuf, Allison Ferrara (Marco), Ryan Poimboeuf, Jeremy Dugas (Rhea), and Ashleigh Landry (Jonas); her six great-grandchildren, Kai Poimboeuf, Nicolas and Benjamin Ferrara, Nora Dugas, Jackson and Jameson Landry; and her brother, Albert Kuhlman (Charlene) and her sister-in-law, Juanita Colletta. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Roland J. Poimboeuf; her parents, Virginia Kuhlman and Joseph Colletta; her stepfather, Albert Kuhlman; her in-laws, Charles and Bernadette Poimboeuf; her brother, Francis Colletta; and her niece, Susan Colletta Boren. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Garden View Assisted Living and Southern Grace Hospice for the compassion and care they provided to Vita in her final years. Their kindness and support brought comfort not only to her, but to all who loved her. The family would like to thank her sitters, Pauline, Joyce, Latoya, Helen, Ashley, Melissa, and Lashawn, for catering to her in her final days and making her comfortable. A special and deeply felt thank you goes to her daughters, Carla and Laurie, who welcomed their mother into their homes after the passing of their father. With patience, love, and unwavering dedication, they tended to her every need, ensuring she remained surrounded by warmth, dignity, and the love of family during her later years.
