Wanda Landry Cambre

Funeral services will be held at a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at St. Mary Church in Lafayette, Louisiana for Wanda Landry Cambre who passed away peacefully at her daughter's home after valiantly & gracefully living 17 years with Alzheimer's disease. Reverend Harold Trahan, Pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church, will be Celebrant of the Mass and conduct the funeral services with Deacon Neil Pettit as Con-Celebrant. Deacon Patrick Burke will officiate at the graveside. John 12:23-25 reminds us that 'unless the grain of wheat fall to the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.' Wanda was born on November 11, 1925 in New Iberia, Louisiana to Albert Joseph Landry, Sr. and Clara Marie David. Within this strong Catholic family, she was born fourth in a line of seven children. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 50 years, Charles Cyril Cambre, Sr.; by her four brothers; Earl James, Albert Joseph, Jr., Henry David Sr., and Ernest Joseph; by her sister, Rosemary; by her oldest son, Ronald Cyril Cambre; and her granddaughter, Sydni Ann Cambre. She is survived by the oldest of her siblings, her sister Albertena; and the second to youngest of her siblings, her brother, Father Ralph Landry; her children: Patrick Cyril Cambre of Erath, Dionne C. Robinson and husband Fredy of New Iberia, Michelle Cambre of New Iberia, Janenne C. deClouet and husband Mark Sr. of Lafayette, Charles Cyril Cambre III and wife Denise Romero of New Iberia; her grandchildren, Aimee Cambre Martin, Kelly R. Standridge, Summer R. Patroni, Fredy Mack Robinson, Mark deClouet, Jr., Ellen D. Ritch, Matthew deClouet, Alexandre' deClouet, Laura deClouet, Claire deClouet; ten great grandchildren and one to be born in July. Her quiver was full! She was a compassionate daughter to her own mother, Clara, caring for her before her passing. Wanda, T-wan or maw-maw as those closest to her knew her, was also a devoted wife and a loving mother and grandmother. Her children were the jewels in her crown, as was evident by the way she kept her home and lived her life. She was queen in her kitchen. . . adorned with apron, always busy creating. She loved all the details of meal planning, from the setting of her tables with her linens and fine china to the welcoming culinary aromas that filled her kitchen. Aunts, uncles and grandparents were a common presence on Sundays. Good conversation and laughter were sure signs that all had gathered again to celebrate life's sacred occasions. . . family life. She enjoyed sewing, reading and her garden. She was the recipient of 'garden of the month' numerous times and spent many an afternoon solving life's concerns within them. Wanda enjoyed making Days of Recollection and Days of Renewal with her closest friends, Ethel Lapoint, Barbara Trappey, and Flo Dumesnil. After moving to Lafayette in 2002 she made numerous other friends within her new church parish. A heartfelt thank you goes out to her St. Mary faith community beginning with her Pastor Father Harold Trahan, the Eucharistic ministers and to the Life Teen kids; her Drs. and Caregivers, Dr. Chad Vincent, Dr. Zeb Sterns and the staff of Heart of Hospice, Joann Savoie, Vera Lewis, Michelle Minor and Sherry Weekly. Special thanks also to the support given by Sister Fatima and the LYSA Soccer Community. Her family, friends and all who knew and loved her will dearly miss her. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 8, 2012 at Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 8:00 a.m. to time of services at St. Mary Church on Doucet Road in Lafayette. Interment will take place at St. Peter's Catholic Church Cemetery in New Iberia, Louisiana.
