Wilbur Leon Loftin

W. L. "Pete" Loftin passed away, at the age of 91, on April 28th, 2014 surrounded by his family. Pete was born on September 25, 1922 to Luther Q. Loftin and Nellie Hughes Loftin in the Carter Oil Company Camp in Wilson, Oklahoma. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery and was honorably discharged as Staff Sergeant in 1946. Following the war, he began his long career in the oil industry with Carter Oil Company, which thru the years evolved into Exxon. Having worked in Michigan, Indiana and Illinois, he moved to Lafayette, Louisiana in 1974 after a two year assignment in Sale, Australia developing their offshore operations. He retired in 1986 after 42 years of service as Operations Manager of the Lafayette District Office. Pete is survived by his present wife, Arlene Holden Loftin; his daughters, Linda Carter of Dallas, Texas and Cathy Rentfrow and her husband, Sam of the Woodlands, Texas; Granddaughter Lisa Sutton and her husband, Sam, of Dallas, Texas; Grandson Jason Rentfrow and his wife, Youngsuk Kim, of Cambridge, England; and his two precious great-grandchildren, Catherine Kim Rentfrow of Cambridge, England and Colton Samuel Sutton of Dallas, Texas. He is also survived by his brothers Lloyd Loftin and his wife, Beverly, of Casper, Wyoming and Floyd Elwin Loftin of Richmond, Virginia; a dear cousin Isla Mae Phillips of Seminole, Oklahoma and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 37 years, Marjorie Garrett Loftin, and his second wife, Lilly Woolfolk Loftin. Pallbearers are Sam Rentfrow, Sam Sutton, Jason Rentfrow, Albert Seiler, Mark Bertrand and Perry Lopez. Honorary Pallbearers are best friends, Bobby Guinn, Claude Hooten and Charles "Buddy" Brooks. Visitation will be on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, LA from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm . Visiting hours will resume on Friday, May 2, 2014 from 9:00 am until time of service. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 am on May 2, 2014 in Delhomme Funeral Home Chapel of the Flowers. Dr. Steve Horn Pastor of First Baptist Church will conduct the funeral services. Interment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
