Wilburn Remy Angelle

A loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and icon in the oil Industry passed away at his home in Lafayette on March 25, 2015 at 12:09 am, the day before he and his wife’s 66th Wedding Anniversary. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2015, at a 12:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial, for Mr. Wilburn Remy Angelle Jr. at Delhomme Funeral Home located on Bertrand Drive. Visiting hours will be observed on Friday, March 27, 2015, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Rosary will be said on Friday evening at 6:30 PM. Visitation will continue Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Entombment will be held in Calvary Mausoleum. Mr. Angelle was preceded in death by his father Mr. Wilburn Remy Angelle Sr. and his mother Mrs. Stella Louviere Angelle. He is survived by his wife of 66 years Mrs. Dorothy Jean Castille Angelle and his children sons Richard G Angelle and wife Donna O’Rourke Angelle, Gregory Blane Angelle and his wife Janie Strickland Angelle, Dean Michael Angelle and his wife Denise Savoy Angelle and daughters Lisa Rene Angelle Toups and Husband Billy J. Toups, Dion Charisse Angelle Viator and Husband Tim Viator and Meriel Marika Angelle Mury and Husband Ed Mury and one brother, Richard T. Angelle and his wife Joann Angelle. Mr. Angelle was born in Breaux Bridge, LA. on August 18th 1927 and has resided in Lafayette since 1957. He was a veteran of World War II serving in 1944 and 45 as a radio tail gunner in the United States Navy. Mr. Angelle was employed in the oil and gas industry and started his career with Humble Oil then as district manager for Sperry Sun. In 1960 he started L.O.R. and Oilfield Machine and Tools both of which provided downhole tools for the drilling aspect of the industry. He established the company in several areas here in the U.S. and overseas to include, Singapore, the UK, the Middle East and several other countries. He sold the company to New Park mining in 1970 and remained as president until 1973. He then started Bilbo drilling out of Victoria Texas. The company had several truck mounted rigs operating in the south Texas area. He sold Bilbo in 1979 and remained in the industry for several more years. During his career in oil and gas he was chairman of LAGCOE also of the Louisiana Gulf Coast Oilman’s Golf Tournament and served on the Board of directors for the Petroleum club of Lafayette. He was active in many events throughout his time in the industry. After his retirement from the oil and gas business he and wife Jean started Jo’s restaurant in Broussard, LA which quickly gained an outstanding reputation for great food which came as no surprise as he was known throughout the oilfield for his culinary skills. He then sold Jo’s and opened a restaurant in the oil center called Remy’s. This also rapidly gained popularity and a year later he sold this restaurant as well. He then dabbled in the oilfield and several other projects but none were closer to his heart then the oilfield. He was a loving father to all his family and generous almost to a fault. He helped many people throughout his time in the industry and always provided more than adequately for his family. He will be missed by many but none more than his wife, 6 children, 12 grandchildren and 15 great- grandchildren. He lived, he loved and will always live in our hearts. Pallbearers will be Jeremy R. Angelle, Zachary R. Toups, Samuel G. Toups, Billy J. "BJ" Toups, Neil Angelle and Chaz Viator. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Mr. Angelle's name to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
