William Stephen "Chet" Blakistone

William Stephen "Chet" Blakistone, a beloved professional musician, passed away peacefully at his home in Lafayette, Louisiana, on February 18, 2024. He was 76 years old. Born in Virginia, Chet migrated to Lafayette during the late 70s amidst the oil boom and quickly fell in love with the area. Over the course of 47 years, Lafayette became more than just a home; it became a part of his soul. Chet was well-known for his versatility and reliability as a musician. He was a staple in the local music scene, playing with numerous bands and always just a phone call away when his talents were needed. While his main love was jazz, Chet had a remarkable ability to adapt to any music style or genre, effortlessly transitioning between different instruments and musical arrangements. In addition to his musical talents, Chet was known for his quick wit and love of bad jokes, bringing laughter, joy, and the occasional raised eyebrow to all who knew him. He had a passion for technology and gadgets, always eager to explore the latest innovations and incorporate them into his musical repertoire. Surrounded by his instruments and gadgets, Chet spent his final moments in the comfort of the home he had enjoyed for 20 years, leaving behind a legacy of music and laughter. Chet was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anne Blakistone, and his favorite dog, Isaac. He is survived by his two daughters, Rachel and Sarah, and his sister Anne. While he will be deeply missed, Chet's impact on the Lafayette music scene and his presence in the hearts of those who knew him will remain. Chet Blakistone and his family were cared for by Delhomme Funeral Home in Lafayette. At his request, he has been cremated and no formal services will be held. His daughters will be visiting some of his most loved places to scatter his ashes.
