William Davis Frazell

William Davis "Dick" Frazell, 94, a long time resident of Lafayette, died Sunday, March 25, 2007 at Lafayette General Hospital. A native of Riesel, Texas, Mr. Frazell was born on February 6, 1913 and was the son of Richard Simon Frazell and Mary Matilda Hibbits. He graduated from Martin Texas High School in 1930. He attended Southern Methodist University on a track scholarship and earned a BS in geology in 1934. H earned his MS in geology from the University of Texas at Austin in 1935. He began his career with Union Producing Company in Shreveport. He was later employed by W. C. Woolf and N. H. Wheeles Oil Company and in 1955 he successfully organized the fin of W.W.F. Oil Corporation and worked both in Abilene, Texas and Lafayette, La since 1954. He served during World War II as Lieutenant Sr. Grade in the U.S. Navy in the European Theater from 1942 to 1946 where he participated in the invasion of France in 1944. He was a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, the Lafayette Geological Association, the Society of Independent Petroleum Earth Scientists, Petroleum Club of Lafayette where he served as a board member, and past member of Krewe of Gabriel and the Huguenot Society. He can be remembered for his assistance in the organization of the first Electric Log Library in Lafayette and one of the early pioneers in the Lafayette oil and gas industry. The Lafayette Geological Society recognized him in its first class of LGS Legends in 1999. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Jean G. Frazell, three sons, Richard Allen Frazell of Austin, Texas, Donald Albert Frazell of San Francisco, Texas, and William Alton Frazell of Austin, Texas, a step son and his wife, John and Ann Crawford of Kingwood, Texas, a step daughter, Nancy Crawford of Baton Rouge and two grand daughters Robin Tarver Frazell and Megan Elizabeth Crawford. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Tarver Frazell, his parents, two brothers, Richard Simon Frazell, Jr. and Dr. Edgar Leonard Frazell and a sister, Grace Frazell Frye. Pallbearers will be Hugh Curfinan, Bill Flores, Gene Lipstate, Marvin Munchrath, Bill Rucks, Bob Snyder, and Bob Whitney... Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Christensen, Glenn Coffee, Murray Coffee, Bill Craig, Bronc Foreman, Scott Myers, Jack Martin, George Crain,Sr. and Nick Wheeles. The family wishes to thank his caregivers Betty Broussard, Dorothy Helaire, Alma Sinegal, Barbara Singleton, Lucille Thibeaux, and Rose Thomas. Funeral Services will be conducted by Rev. Jan Holloway on Tuesday, March 27th at 2 pm at Delhomme Funeral Home, 1311 Bertrand Drive with visitation from 10:00 am until the service.
