William Alfred Stika

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Calvary Cemetery for William 'Bill' Alfred Stika, 83, who passed away on November 10, 2012 at his residence. Reverend John Clark, Pastor of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, will conduct the funeral services. Entombment will take place in Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Stika, born in Hackensack, NJ, and a resident of Lafayette, LA, was the son of the late Joseph Stika and the former Lillian Klein both of New Jersey. Bill entered the Navy after graduating from high school. Upon receipt of his honorable discharge, Bill enrolled at LSU and in June, 1957 graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture. The "Yankee" found a new home in Lafayette, first employed by Robert Stephan, and so began his career in commercial architecture where he was responsible for the design of many buildings currently utilized by our community on a daily basis. Bill continued his career with Don O'Rourke and Associates after five years with Stephan, until his retirement in December, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 56 wonderful years, Claire O'Brien Stika of Lafayette, LA; one daughter, Leslie S. Alwell and husband David of Lafayette, LA; one son, Kurt J. Stika and wife Mona of Abbeville, LA; one grandson, Corey Coles and his wife Joanna; two great granddaughters, Caitlin and Scarlett Coles; and one cousin, Gladys Jacobus of Wayne, NJ. He was preceded in death by his one son, Eric W. Stika; his parents; one sister and brother in law, Doris and Robert Green; and one niece, Patty Green. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Monday, November 12, 2012 from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm and on Tuesday from 9:00 am until the time of service. Memorial contributions can be made in the name of Mr. Stika to Heart of Hospice , 201 West Vermilion Street, Lafayette, LA 70501. The family would like to sincerely thank Heart of Hospice, especially his nurse, Karen, and the wonderful ladies of Home Instead.
