Bob Andrew Whitney Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, June 16, 2022 in St. Mary Mother of the Church for Bob Andrew Whitney, 92, who passed away on June 11, 2022. Fr. Cedric Sonnier, Pastor of St. Mary Mother of the Church, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Holy Mary Mother of God Cemetery. Bob, a resident of Lafayette, was the son of the late Clyde Whitney and the former Agnes Nelson. Bob and his twin brother Bill were born in Chickasha Oklahoma on May 17, 1930. Upon graduation from high school, he attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Geological Engineering. Bob joined the US Army during the Korean Conflict and served as company commander in the 30th Engineering Group stationed at Fort Winfield Scott in San Francisco. After being released from active duty in 1954, Bob moved to Louisiana and began employment with Union Producing Co. in New Orleans, where he met and married Claire Lea Simon in January 1955. In 1960, they moved to Lafayette, where they settled and raised their family. Bob continued his employment with Union Producing Co., which later became Pennzoil, until 1968. At that point he ventured out on his own as an independent Consulting Geologist. He consulted with various companies throughout his career, drilling wells throughout South and Southwest Louisiana. He fully retired in the late 1990s. Growing up in Oklahoma as a Methodist, Bob converted to Catholicism and was baptized in 1985 and served as head usher and eucharistic minister at St. Mary Mother of the Church. An avid hunter and fisherman, Bob enjoyed the outdoors, playing tennis and traveled in Europe several times. He was a staunch supporter of the University of Oklahoma, as well as his children’s and Grandchildren’s schools. He is survived by his sons, Chris Whitney (Winx), Mark Whitney (Aralise), Jon Whitney (Marilyn), and Ron Whitney; grandchildren, Ashley W. Fadul (Javier), Michael Whitney (Lauren), Leah W. Suchma (Layton), Eric Whitney, Colette Whitney, and Patrick Whitney; and great-grandchildren, Logan Whitney, Lucas Whitney, Sebastian Fadul, and Nicolas Fadul. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Claire Simon Whitney; grandson, Charles Louis Whitney; parents, Clyde and Agnes Whitney; and brother, Bill Whitney. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at St. Mary Mother of the Church on Thursday, June 16, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. A Rosary will be prayed at 10:00 AM on Thursday morning in the church, service to follow. The family would like to thank and acknowledge the care givers with Agnes Loving Care as well as the nurses and staff at Avanti Assisted Living and Katie and Alyssa with Hospice of Acadiana.
