Bruce C. Trible Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Following an extended illness, Bruce C. Trible passed away on January 27, 2022 at age 94. Bruce was born in Palco, Kansas, on October 17, 1927. He earned a B.A. in Music History from Fort Hays State University, Hays, Kansas, and Master’s degrees in both musicology and library science from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana. He held positions as periodicals librarian at East Carolina University, Greenville, North Carolina, and as music librarian at Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan, before becoming reserves librarian at ULL’s Dupre Library in 1958. Throughout his professional career he was an active participant in the Louisiana Library Association and its national affiliate, the American Library Association. In 1990, he retired from the ULL library with the rank of full professor and the title of Assistant Director for Technical Services. Bruce was a kind, thoughtful and gentle man who loved classical music and world travel, especially on cruise ships. For several years he notated music for and performed with the bell choir at St. Mary Church. He and his wife Madelyn, a piano teacher, enjoyed staging musical concerts in their home, both for Madelyn’s students as well as for widely known guest artists. Mr. Trible is survived by Madelyn, his wife of 68 years, and son Michael and Michael’s wife Lee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernice (Frazey) Trible and Clarence Trible. Visitation will be held Sunday afternoon, January 30, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, with a rosary recited at 7:00 pm. A funeral mass celebrating his life will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church, 419 Doucet Road, Lafayette, on Monday, January 31 at 2:00 PM, with visitation from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the church.
