December 10, 1950 - December 10, 2021
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist for Debbie Marie Landry, 71, who passed away on December 10, 2021 in her home. The Very Reverend Fr. Chester Arceneaux V.F., Pastor of Cathedral of St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church, will be the Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Interment will take place in St. John's Cemetery, immediately following the Mass. Mrs. Debbie, a resident of Lafayette, was the daughter of Kirvie Brunet and the late Ethel ‘Tweedy’ Voisin. She was born on December 10, 1950, in Bayou DuLarge, LA. A woman of deep faith, she passed from this life at 3:15 am on Friday, December 10, 2021 (her birthday) with her husband and two sons by her side in her home. Aside from her devotion to her immediate and extended family, Debbie dedicated her life to teaching. For 35 years, students in 5th grade at Cathedral Carmel Elementary could expect a day of no homework if the New Orleans Saints won the night before. Who Dat! She was a truly beloved teacher fondly remembered by the students who entered her classroom. She cared deeply for each and every student. It is estimated that she taught just over 3,000 students during her tenure. Prior to her teaching career she was ‘Queen of the syrup making operations’ at D&S Snow Cones, at the corner of Johnston St. and South College Rd. where she, her husband David, and her brother-in-law Stephen Landry Sr. served up some of Lafayette’s best snow cones. Debbie’s great gift was that of nurturing, best expressed through her cooking or her compassionate care of others. She was the “roux” of the family. From backyard BBQs and pool parties to huge family beach trips, the event simply did not taste as good when she was not there. She will be sorely missed. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, David L. Landry Sr; sons, David L. Landry Jr (Holly) and Danny M. Landry (Michele); grandchildren, Emma Grace Landry, Addison Paige Landry, and David L. Landry III; father, Kirvie M. Brunet; sister, Cathy Brunet Ball (Johnny); and brothers, Barry Brunet (Mary) & Byron Brunet (Desi). She was preceded in death by her mother, Ethel Voisin Brunet. The family requests that a visiting hour be observed at Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 beginning at 8:00 AM. A Rosary will be prayed at 9:00 AM. Eulogy will follow the Rosary, prior to the time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in honor of Debbie to be made to Heart of Hospice in Lafayette, LA and/or Cathedral Carmel Elementary School, Lafayette, LA. Personal condolences may be sent to the Landry family at www.delhommefuneralhome.com. Debbie Marie Landry and her family were very well cared for and entrusted final arrangements to Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, LA.
