Elizabeth Joy "Betty" Olinde Wilson

January 30, 1926 - April 8, 2022

Elizabeth Joy “Betty” Olinde Wilson, 96, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 8, 2022. She was born on January 30, 1926 to Humphrey Theodore Olinde, Sr. and Elsie Heck Olinde in New Roads, Louisiana. After graduating as valedictorian from St. Joseph Academy she went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree from LSU. She and Thomas Edward “Ned” Wilson were married in 1949. After stays in Shreveport and Oklahoma City, they moved to Lafayette in 1960. She was devoted to her family and friends and was always thinking of others, helping where needed or sometimes just sending a well-timed card. She was known for her generosity and ability to see the best in people. She is survived by her six children: Joy Bonvillain, Barbara Tyer (husband Don d. 2018), Thomas E. Wilson, Jr. and wife Donna Jean, Junietta “Patti” Williams and husband Gary, Kathryn Tyer and husband Tony, Charles Wilson and wife Tracy. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 34 years, brothers Joseph Beauregard “JB” Olinde, Humphrey T. “Bubber” Olinde, Jr., Henry Dupont Heck Olinde, Sr., sister Elsie Patricia "Pat" Olinde Laurent, and granddaughter Rebecca Tyer. Surviving siblings are brothers Dr. Alfred Olinde and Christopher Olinde. A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, April 19, at 12:00 PM at St. Mary of False River Catholic Church in New Roads. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery. The family would like to thank Connie McManus and Sue Duplechien for their companionship and care over these last years.
