July 25, 1932 - November 30, 2021
Graveside Services for Gerald Jeanne Landry McDonald will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 11:00 AM at St. Alphonsus Cemetery Mausoleum. Gerald Jeanne Landry McDonald, 89, of Lafayette, Louisiana passed away peacefully at Eastridge Nursing Center on November 30 after struggling to recover from recent health issues. She was born July 25, 1932 to Leopaul Landry and Elia Broussard. Gerald was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Billy Morris McDonald, her parents, and her siblings, Frank and Dave Landry and Lilly Mae Simon. Mom, Mawmaw, Nan Tit, Aunt Gerald, Geri. She was fierce all her days, a superhuman who never ceased. She was the pinnacle of mama bear - defending her babies throughout and beyond their childhoods and then ferociously loving on her grand and great grandbabies. She was tough as leather, soft as her quilts, and humble - never realizing just how much she truly held the family in her hands. She did not go quietly. She told you exactly what she thought, no matter what, and loved hard. Wife, driver, cook, tailor, cake artist, wallpaper hanger, painter, quilter, mother, sister, caretaker, feminist, the loudest cheerleader, and giver of infinite love taps that left a mark. She won't only be missed; she will be mourned forever. She was our North Star and home, and no one and nothing can ever replace Gerald Jeanne Landry McDonald. May she finally rest now in the arms of angels knowing how loved and appreciated she is. Peace be with her and her family. She is survived by her children, Lisa Ann LeBlanc and her husband, Mark; James Claby McDonald and his wife, Sandie; and Brenda Lee McDonald; her grandchildren, Tracy LeBlanc and her partner, Christopher Monju; Lane McDonald and his wife, Mekail; and Billy McDonald; five great-grandchildren, Adrian Wories, Levi and Ozzie McDonald, and Nicodemus and Raphael LeBlanc Monju; and one brother, James Landry. The family would like to thank Mildred Durke, who spent many years caring for Mom in her home, the staff and doctors at Eastridge Nursing Center for their care and concern, and Acadian Hospice for their loving support and guidance. Pallbearers are James McDonald, Lane McDonald, Billy McDonald, Mark LeBlanc, Christopher Monju and Clayton McDonald. Honorary pallbearers are Timothy Breaux, C.J. McDonald, and Robert Landry.
