Fr. Gregory Chauvin, Pastor of St. Jules Catholic Church will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery. Harry, a long-time resident of Lafayette, was the son of the late Lanzy McCauley and the former Lula Deshotel. He was reared on a farm in the Duralde community of Evangeline Parish. Harry joined the Navy at the age of 17. He saw action aboard a Patrol Craft in several battles in the Pacific including Iwo Jima and Okinawa. For many years he was a participant in, and a host of, Iwo Jima Veterans’ reunions. He was involved in community service and military support projects throughout his adult life. The couple resided in New Orleans and Eunice before moving to Lafayette, where he worked as a highly respected agency manager in the insurance industry for nearly four decades. Beginning in the 1950’s Harry, an early riser, was at the coffee table with friends before the beginning of each workday. The tradition continued into retirement. His most recent gathering venue was La Table Francaise at Dwyer’s Café. Harry is survived by his sons, David and Brad (wife Debbie) of Lafayette; his brother, Dr. Huey McCauley (wife Lee Anna), also of Lafayette; and numerous nieces, nephews, & relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Joyce, his sons Daniel and Douglas; his brother Helin McCauley of Oberlin; his sisters Priscilla Vidrine of Lake Charles and Elaine Gaspard of St. Martinville. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Monday, December 27, 2021, from 9:00 AM until the time of service.
