August 30, 1942 - April 25, 2022
Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, April 29, 2022, in Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Janie "Gene" Brown Alexander, 79, who passed away on April 25, 2022. Dr. Glenn Young of First Baptist Church in Kilgore, TX, will conduct the memorial services. Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park. Mrs. Alexander, a resident of Lafayette, was the daughter of the late Paul Brown and the former Linnie Gryder. Gene was a lady of many talents. She never seemed to run out of energy. She loved to camp and travel. She especially loved spending time at the beach. She had a large collection of seashells she gathered on her many trips. Gene and Lee loved traveling with their children and with the Comeaux High School Marching Band for competitions in their motorhome. Many lifelong friends and special memories were made with their children during these trips. Gene was exceptional in designing floral arrangements and did so for church, friends, and special events. She was also known for her immaculate yard and garden flowers. A loving and caring wife to Lee for over 60 years. She followed him to Germany, where he served in the Army, supported him during flight training, and cared for him through cancer recovery. She never wavered at his side. Mostly she loved her three granddaughters and spent as much time as possible with them and her family. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Alton Lee Alexander; daughter, Kimberly A. Wittenberg (Frank); son, Shane C. Alexander (Mary); granddaughters, Megan Wittenberg, Jennifer Wittenberg, and Michelle Wittenberg; and sister, Pat Brown. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Linnie Brown; sister, Pauline B. Roberts; and brother, Kenneth "Buddy" Brown. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers on Friday, April 25, 2022, from 2:00 PM until the time of service. A special thank you from the family goes out to the ladies that took care of Gene for many months, Reva Daigle, Renita Compton, Ann Davis, and Jessica Daigle. Their compassion and love for Gene went beyond any expectations and are now part of our family. We would also like to mention the staff at Avanti Senior Living for their support in our family’s journey. Finally, thank you to Lourdes Hospice staff for their giving and compassionate care along the way. You guided us through this difficult journey. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Lourdes Hospice, St. Jude’s Children’s hospital, or an organization of your choice. Personal condolences may be sent to the Alexander family at www.delhommefuneralhome.com. Janie Gene Alexander and her family were cared for and entrusted final arrangements to Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, LA.
