Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, November 9, 2020, in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Jimmy Lyndon Cordell, 86, who passed away on November 6, 2020 at the Southwest Louisiana War Veterans Home. Pastor Danny Hebert, Outreach Pastor of Riverside Church of Christ, will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park. Mr. Cordell, a resident of Lafayette, was the son of the late Arling Cordell and the former Vela Schifflett. Papa Jim, as he was affectionately known, was proudly raised in Oklahoma, but made his home in Louisiana since 1962. He retired from Baroid (Halliburton) as an engineer after 45 years in the oilfield. Papa Jim was a patriotic veteran having served 4 years in the Oklahoma National Guard 45th Thunderbird Division and 2 years as a Medical Technician in the 7th Army during the German Occupation. He loved hunting, gardening, substitute teaching and coaching his beloved soccer boys. He is survived by his children, Jima Lynn Sturtz (Randy), Clara F. Arabie (Steven) and Casey C. Cordell (Kris); grandsons, Jesse P. Arabie (Jessica), Blake L. Arabie (Krystal) and Nathan Cordell; granddaughter, Jillian Barnes (Jordan); and great-grandkids, Kenzy, Christian, John-Luke, Kylie, Jack and Micah. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 37 years, Margie Polasek Cordell and wife of 16 years, Sharon Moss Cordell; parents, Arling and Clara Dean Cordell; and mother, Vela Schifflett Cordell. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Monday, November 9, 2020, from 9:00 AM until the time of service. Pallbearers will be Steven Arabie, Jesse Arabie, Blake Arabie, Keith Arabie, Randy Sturtz and Ritchie Duplechien. Honorary Pallbearers will be Casey Cordell, Nathan Cordell and Jordan Barnes. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Faith House and Hospice of Acadiana. Personal condolences may be sent to the Cordell family at www.delhommefuneralhome.com.
