October 11, 1940 - October 18, 2020
Linda Anderson died on Sunday, October 18, 2020, a week after her 80th birthday and after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Linda was a 1961 graduate of the University of Louisiana – Lafayette and embarked on a teaching career for the next 30-plus years. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of both Devine, Texas, and of Lafayette, Louisiana. She was a devoted wife, an extraordinary mother, and a loving friend. She is survived by her daughter Delaine (Don) of Atlanta, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Nell Rider. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Buck Foss, who passed away in 1998, and by her second husband, Alton “Andy” Anderson, who passed away in 2010 after 4 years of marriage. She is also survived by her brother-in-law and long-time friend, Elwood Anderson of Las Vegas, Nevada. Linda started her teaching career in Lafayette, then Houston, Texas, before marriage and later moving to Devine, Texas, where she was a teacher at John J. Ciavarra Elementary School. In Devine she was engaged in numerous school, civic and church-related activities. She was extremely proud of her daughter Delaine, who was the 1990 valedictorian at Devine High School, a summa cum laude graduate of the University of Houston and cum laude graduate of the University of Houston Law Center. Through the years, she would travel several times each year to visit Delaine in Houston, Austin, and most recently, Atlanta, Georgia. These trips would involve shopping, dining and, during the Christmas season, watching countless hours of Christmas movies. Linda loved to travel and, while able, she saw a great deal of the United States, Europe and other countries. Linda was also an avid reader who passed on her love of reading early to Delaine, reading her countless stories. In recent years she enjoyed the benefits of her iPhone and staying in contact with her friends and family through email, text and various social media platforms. Friends both near and far provided her with joy, comfort and prayers. Over the past few years, she enjoyed and increasingly relied on her close friends in the Lafayette area, so many of whom have been so helpful and such blessings in her last days. There will be a memorial service at 11:00 am, Wednesday, October 21, 2020, at the Chapel at the Delhomme Funeral Home in Lafayette. Inurnment will be at the National Cemetery, Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the First Baptist Church of Lafayette, 1100 Lee Avenue, Lafayette, LA 70501. Personal condolences may be sent to the Anderson Family at www.delhommefuneralhome.com. Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, LA, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
