September 23, 1934 - January 24, 2021
Marion Dortch Rosser, 86, died on January 24, peacefully at her home under hospice and family care after a brief illness. Originally from Kentucky, she attended the University of Mississippi earning a B.A. in Education. She taught English at Lafayette High for twenty years and at Academy of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau for six years. Marion completed her Masters and her Doctorate degree from The University of Southwestern Louisiana. She taught many different courses there in the English Department during her tenure. She retired from teaching at the age of 82. Marion was a voracious reader and an avid book and literature collector. She also enjoyed writing poems and stories, which has left a lovely legacy and treasure for us all. Marion curated and enjoyed managing her Little Free Library located in their yard. The family is proud that she was never boastful about her intellect and education, but she reveled in the success of her students. Many of her former students have become permanent members of the family. She was also an enthusiastic fan and supporter of the arts and enjoyed her work as a volunteer at the Acadiana Center for the Arts. She is survived by her husband, Robert E. Rosser, of 64 years, as well as 4 children and 9 grandchildren. Robin and her husband, Ric Martinez and their children, Mattie and Rosser; Robert E. Rosser IV (Bobby) and his children, Quint and Jesse; Randall (Randy) and his wife Amy and their children, Bodhi and Myla, and Mary (Meg) Cornell and her children, Ethan, Evan, and Andrew. A private graveside service for immediate family will be held at Lafayette Memorial Park. The family asks in lieu of flowers, that friends plant a tree in her honor wherever they may choose. Children’s books donated to her Little Free Library would be a lovely way to honor her as well. Personal condolences may be sent to the Rosser family at www.delhommefuneralhome.com.
