Martha Lee Chaisson Wilson Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 18, 2022 in St. Mary Mother of the Church for Martha Lee Chaisson Wilson, 89, who passed away on June 10, 2022. Fr. Cedric Sonnier, Pastor of St. Mary Mother of the Church, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery #2 - Rayne, LA. She was a long-time resident of Lafayette and more recently, Katy, TX. She was the daughter of the late Emerson Chaisson and the former Lula Marie Meche. She grew up in Rayne, LA, attending school there and graduating from Rayne High School, remaining close to her Rayne friends for all of her life. She attended South Louisiana Institute (now University of Louisiana- Lafayette) and while attending was chosen to be a top Beauty on Campus by Governor Earl K. Long’s wife, Blanche. Our mother met the love of her life, Richard “Dick” on his New Year’s Eve birthday in 1953 and they married six weeks later on Valentine’s Day. They were married for sixty years and had three children. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who loved nothing better than being surrounded by family. She was well known for her wonderful cooking, particularly her gumbo and jambalaya. After raising her children, mom took up tennis and played in singles and doubles leagues at Lafayette Town House and Red Lerille’s Health and Racquet Club. She and daddy were also avid bridge players and loved traveling, generally taking a cruise each year. She is survived by her children, Elizabeth Wilson Wallace and husband, David Wallace of Sonora, Texas, Richard Grear Wilson, Jr. and wife, Lisa Dark of Houston, Texas, and Diane Wilson DeCarlo and husband, Leonard DeCarlo of Richmond, Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Wilson Emerson Wallace and wife, Elizabeth of Abilene, Texas, Warren Andrew Wallace and wife, Ashley of Sonora, Texas, Richard Grear Wilson, III and wife, Jenny of Temple, Texas, Abigail Marchand Wilson of Houston, Texas, Natalie Anne Wilson, of Houston, Texas, Crawford Connor LeBouef and wife, Kirsten of Houston, Texas and William Wilson LeBouef of Amarillo, Texas. She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Thomas Emerson Wallace, Lucille Ellen Wallace, and Marie Elizabeth Wallace. Also surviving her are step-grandchildren, Zoe Dark-Fox of Burton-on-Trent, England, Adam Dark-Fox of Houston, Texas, Karissa DeCarlo and husband Dwight Loar of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and step-great-grandchild, Celeste Loar, Paul DeCarlo of Houston, Texas and Vincent DeCarlo of Houston, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Grear Wilson, her parents and sister, Betty Ann Chaisson Langlinais. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Friday, June 17, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM on Friday evening in the funeral home. Visiting hours will continue Saturday, June 18, 2022 from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and sons-in-law. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
