July 25, 1930 - August 17, 2021
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 21, 2021 in Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Murphy Clark, 91, who passed away on August 17, 2021. Deacon Cody Miller will conduct the funeral services. Mr. Clark, a resident of Duson, was the son of the late Octa Clark and the former Benita Broussard. A longtime bricklayer, crawfish-farmer, and rice-farmer by trade, Murphy's true passion was always horse racing. As a trainer, Murphy owned, bred, and trained racehorses for over 60 years. From the old-time bush tracks to the big casino racetracks, he won a few and lost many. Murphy was well-known for his sense of humor and quick wit, always one to make a joke. When interviewed by the Times of Acadiana about his draft notice in 1951, these words were still fresh on his mind: "Your friends and neighbors have chosen you to serve your country." Murphy chuckled at the memory and said, "I must not have very good friends!" He was great dancer, especially to Cajun music. Murphy's love for Cajun music was instilled in him at a young age by his father, the legendary Octa Clark. These are the memories that will be held dear by his family and friends. He is survived by his son, Randal P. Clark (Janine); granddaughter, Cypress Marie Clark Melville (Brandon); grandson, Dylan Octa Clark (Lauren); daughter-in-law, Darlene Touchet Clark; great-granddaughters, Carlie Clark, Kenzee Clark, and Khloe Clark; step-granddaughter, Mary Geddis Moats (Clark "Skip"); step-great-grandsons, Kyle, Nathan, and Ryan Moats; and his special companion, Catherine Trahan. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Hazel Marie Clark; parents, Octa and Benita Clark; and son, Glen A. Clark. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers on Saturday, August 21, 2021, beginning at 10:00 AM. A Rosary will be prayed at 1:30 PM in the chapel. Visiting hours will continue following the Rosary until the time of service. Personal condolences may be sent to the Clark family at www.delhommefuneralhome.com.
