Paul Joseph Giroir Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Funeral Services will be held in Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers on July 23, 2022, at 11:00 AM for Paul Joseph Giroir, 76, who passed away on July 16, 2022. Interment will take place at the Calvary Cemetery in Lafayette. Father Steve LeBlanc will conduct the funeral services. Paul was born in New Iberia on February 28, 1946 and was raised in Morgan City as the only child of Therese and Leonie “Jake” Giroir. He attended Sacred Heart and graduated from Morgan City Senior High. At the age of 15, he earned his Eagle Scout badge, and he was awarded the junior division sharpshooter medal with nine bars in 1963. Paul attended Louisiana State University for one year, then enrolled and graduated from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1971 with a degree in Industrial Technology. His time at USL was memorable, and he remained a loyal Ragin’ Cajuns fan for his entire life. He was a founding member, along with 45 fraternity brothers, of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. It was it during this time in Lafayette that he met Charlotte Dominique, his wife for over 40 years. Paul was a talented builder and loved his work. In the early seventies, his work as a builder of offshore vessels and patrol boats led to one of the most wonderful experiences of his life. In 1973, he was chosen for a contract in Beersheba, Israel, where he and Charlotte spent 14 months. There, he worked alongside Israeli craftsmen in building boats. He greatly appreciated the experiences he had there, often describing this time as “the best move of his life.” Later, he went on to work on major pipelines with Woodson and Kori Corp, where he managed various successful projects. After many years in the oil and gas industry, he started A-Abal Transmission Repairs and Differentials and served as owner for over thirty years. Throughout his life, Paul held the highest regard for his mentors and supervisors, and he always spoke highly of people he had the opportunity to know and work with over the years. In 1970, Paul married the love of his life, Charlotte Dominique and later had two children, Shannon and Ryan. Together, they worked hard to provide a wonderful life for them. He shared a love of adventure with his family. Paul became a grandfather in 2009, and he enjoyed his two grandchildren Iris and Leonie Head. As “Paw Paw,” he was kind and loved to “cut up” with them. Paul was also fortunate to have many friends who brought joy and adventure to his life, many whom he considered brothers. He had a talent for cooking and barbecuing for a big crowd. Paul, along with several friends, were known for the food they served from their cooking trailer, under the oak tree at the USL football stadium. Paul was also drawn to the open road, riding Jeep trails and taking long road trips with his family and friends—sometimes all the way to the Grand Canyon. For so many reasons, he often described his life “one big bucket list.” Paul is survived by his daughter Shannon and husband Travis Head, his son Ryan Giroir and wife Lisa Pritchett Giroir, and his grandchildren Iris and Leonie Head; his godchildren Ashley Reed and Marie Claire Cheramie; along with numerous sister- and brother-in-laws; cousins, nieces, and nephews he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Dominique Giroir; his mother Therese LeBlanc Giroir and father Leonie J. Giroir; his mother-in-law Elaine Koury Dominique and father-in-law Edward Dominique; his grandparents Alida Leblanc, Charles Leblanc, Adio Giroir, and Birdie Barras Giroir. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Saturday, July 23, 2022 from 9:00 AM until time of service. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Leonie Head, John Nowlin, F.G. LeBlanc, Gordon Reed, and Mike Helo. The family especially thanks the doctors, nurses, and staff members at Lafayette General Hospital, along with all of the medical professionals who cared for him kindly in his last weeks.
