Funeral Services are planned for Thursday, November 12, 2020, beginning at 10:00 AM at Delhomme Funeral Home, Bertrand Drive, in Lafayette, Louisiana, for Virgil Masters Skinner, age 87, who went to our Lord on Monday, November 9, 2020. Reverend Gil Dutel will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct funeral services. Burial will be at in Fountain Memorial Cemetery, 1010 Pandora St., Lafayette, LA. Virgil M. Skinner was born in St. Augustine, Florida. He graduated from Brownsville High School in Brownsville, Texas, in 1951. Virgil enlisted in the United States Navy as an airman stationed in Memphis, Tennessee, and later joined the United States Air Force. He married Patricia Anne Dashiell on May 3, 1952, at Fort Benning, Columbus, Georgia. Virgil participated in a family venture of White’s Auto Store in Morgan City, Louisiana. For most of his work career, Virgil worked for McDermott Shipyard in Amelia, Louisiana and he and his family lived in Bayou Vista, Louisiana. Virgil was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Virgil is survived by his wife Minta “Pauline” Skinner; his children, Deborah Kay S. Terro (Michael), Virgil M. Skinner, Jr. (Jody) of Sugarland, TX; George D. Skinner (Mary Theresa) of Navarre Beach, FL; Annette Marie S. Trahan (David) of Lafayette, LA; Timothy L. Skinner (Denice) of Lafayette, LA; nine grandchildren, Benjamin Skinner, Rebecca Skinner Fitter, Katherine Skinner Lance, Rachel Brunt, Paige deClouet, Angel Johnston, David Sonnier, Courtney Cavazos, and Elizabeth Skinner; 14 great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Leighton Dashiell (Toni Anne) of Boerne, TX; his stepson Jeff Leblanc (Shiela); and his sister Joyce Orlando, of Morgan City, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Patricia Dashiell Skinner; his father, Barney F. “Doc” Skinner; his mother Theresa Masters Skinner; his brother, Gerald Skinner; and his grandchildren, Joshua and Melanie Smith. He was a loving caregiver for several years for his wife, Patricia “Peacha” Skinner, who went to our Lord in 2011. Virgil enjoyed playing golf and playing cards with his friends at the Rose House. Virgil later remarried Minta “Pauline” T. LeBlanc. Virgil and Pauline enjoyed trips to Branson, Missouri and spending time with family. Virgil was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of St. Edmond Catholic Church in Lafayette. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved this generous man. He lived his life for his family and his faith and was devoted to both. Pallbearers will be Trey Brunt, Matt deClouet, Virgil Skinner, Jr., Timothy Skinner, George Skinner, David Sonnier and Steve Orlando. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Thursday, November 12, 2020, from 10:00 AM until time of service. A Rosary will be recited at 11:00 AM, followed by the Mass at 1:00 PM in the Delhomme Funeral Home Chapel of the Flowers.
