Bennie W. Primeaux

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 23, 2024 in Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Bennie Warren Primeaux, Sr., 92, who passed away on February 19, 2024, having lived a long, successful and happy life. Retired pastors, Dwight St. Andre and Dr. Clarence Young, will conduct the funeral services. Charley Watson will lead the music selections. Burial will take place at 4:30 PM on Monday, February 26, 2024 in Resurrection Cemetery of Oklahoma City, OK. Bennie W. Primeaux was born in Cameron, Louisiana on April 27, 1931 to Wallace and Laurmie Primeaux. He grew up and attended primary, middle and high schools in Cameron, leaving at the age of 17 for college. After two years at Louisiana Tech, he enlisted in the Navy and served for four years on an aircraft carrier during the Korean War. He returned in 1954, attended Louisiana State University on the GI Bill, and graduated as a Chemical Engineer. At LSU, he met the love of his life, Angie Barbre, and they were married on August 18, 1956. Bennie and Angie moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana and he began his career as an engineer in Cities Service Lake Charles Refinery. Over the next 35 years, he had several varied positions with Cities Service in Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Indiana, ultimately returning to Lake Charles for the last several years of his career. Upon retirement, Bennie and Angie moved to Zwolle, Louisiana to spend 28 years on the Lake, where he also served as minister of music for Aimwell Baptist Church and as president of the homeowners’ association. Three years ago, Bennie and Angie decided to move to Lafayette to be closer to many of their extended family members, including his brothers and sister. Bennie led an active life with many friends and hobbies including gardening, music (he was an incredible piano player), crossword puzzling, fishing and traveling. He and Angie also enjoyed over 30 years playing with their 42 group from Sulphur and Lake Charles. Most of all, his life was defined by his love for the Lord, his family, his church and his country. He faithfully attended and served in every church he belonged to over the years in many different roles as needed, such as; deacon, substitute piano player, music minister, Sunday School teacher, and general handyman. He was daddy to his four children: Linda Robinson (Kent), Warren Primeaux (Connie), David Primeaux (Shaina), and Juli Suverkrup (Mark). He was a great example to each of his children who looked up to him as a role model for how to live a happy and successful life. There were many times each of them asked themselves “What would daddy do in this situation?” He had an amazing ability to reach across the generations to his eight grandchildren who knew him as “Granddaddy” and always felt his loving presence in their lives. His love, loyalty, and invaluable guidance will be sorely missed and never forgotten. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Angie Barbre Primeaux; daughters, Linda Primeaux Robinson (Kent) of Mesa, AZ and Julianne Primeaux Suverkrup (Mark) of Columbus, IN; sons, Bennie Warren Primeaux, Jr (Connie) of Oklahoma City, OK and David N. Primeaux (Shaina) of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Rachel Robinson Cromwell (James), Luke Robinson, Sarah Robinson Petersen (Cameron), Anna Robinson (Steve Mooney), Joseph Suverkrup, Mark Primeaux (Anna), Amanda Primeaux (Mark Jones), and Tyler Primeaux; great-grandchildren, Isaac Cromwell, Jackson Cromwell, and Evan Primeaux; and siblings, Dottie Primeaux Hayes and Charles Primeaux (Beverly). He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Laurmie Primeaux; and his brother, Wallace Primeaux, Jr. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Friday, February 23, 2024 from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Family members serving ceremoniously as pallbearers will be: Kent Robinson, Mark Suverkrup, Mark Primeaux, Luke Robinson, Joseph Suverkrup, and Tyler Primeaux.
