Bernard Huval

It is with great sadness that the Huval family announces the passing of Bernard Huval, Jr. Surrounded by family, he died peacefully on January 6, 2015 after a valiant six-month battle with Glioblastoma. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday January 10, 2015 in the Delhomme Funeral Home Chapel of the Flowers. Reverend Brian Taylor, Pastor of St. Genevieve Catholic Church, will be Celebrant of the Mass. Burial will take place in St. Bernard Cemetery # 1 in Breaux Bridge, LA Bernard was born on March 14, 1932 in Breaux Bridge to Bernard Huval, Sr. and the former Annie Landry. He graduated from Breaux Bridge Senior High in 1950. He married Audrey Ann Breaux, his high school sweetheart, in 1951 and together they moved to Lafayette. He started his career at Lafayette Wood Works then worked at American Glass until he founded The Glass House in 1964. Bernard and Audrey owned and operated The Glass House until they sold the business in 1982. Bernard then went back to work at Lafayette Wood Works until 2001. He joined the Louisiana National Guard when he was 17. In 1961, he joined the United States Army Special Forces, 20th Special Forces Group, where he earned a Green Beret. He was a current member of the Special Forces Association, Chapter LXXXI. He served several years as a volunteer fireman for the Fire Protection District 1 on Bertrand Drive and was a past member of the Acadiana Home Builders Association and the Lions Club. He was an active member of the Lafayette Boat Club, where he held numerous positions over the years. He played the accordion, fiddle, and piano in several bands and was most recently a member of the Les Amis band, which played at several local nursing homes. Bernard lived a full and fruitful life. He was a hard worker and was determined and persistent. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, playing music, making leaded glass art, and gardening. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving and devoted spouse of 63 years, the former Audrey Ann Breaux; two daughters, Sherry Andrus and her husband, James; and Nancy Kinchen, Ph.D. and her husband, Leon, all of Lafayette; his grandchildren, Benjamen Andrus and his wife, Whitney, of Baton Rouge; Ross Andrus of Hattiesburg, MS; Molly Broussard and her husband Robert, of Zachary; and Melanie Anderson and her husband, Charles, of Zachary; his great grandchildren, Audrey Andrus, Annalise and Wren Anderson, and Rhett and Hudson Broussard; his sisters- and brothers-in law, Renella Linscomb and her husband, Paul; Shirley Daugherty; Barbara Calais and her husband, Curtis; Verna Huval; Joyce Huval; Marianne Breaux; Bootsie Breaux; Ronald Breaux and his wife, Grace; and Alton Breaux, Jr. and his wife, Judy; and his uncle whom he was raised with like a brother, Lynn Landry of Marshall, TX. He was preceded in death by his father, Bernard Huval, Sr.; his mother, Annie Landry Huval Curry; his young son, David Joseph Huval; his brothers, James and Frank Huval; and his brothers- and sister-in-law, Floyd Breaux, Sr., Ulysses Breaux, Bobby Daugherty, and Pat Landry. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home on Bertrand Drive in Lafayette on Saturday, January 10, 2015 from 8:30 am until time of the service. Pallbearers will be Leon Kinchen, James Andrus, Benjamen Andrus, Charles Anderson, Robert Broussard, and Ross Andrus.
