Donald Richard Dodson

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday June 6, 2017 at 1:00 pm at the Delhomme Funeral Home for Donald Richard Dodson, 80, who passed away on June 3, 2017 at his residence in Lafayette. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:00 am until time of service. Inurnment will be in the Presbyterian Cemetery in Emerson, AR at a private service to be determined. Pastors Steve Horn and Luther Burney of First Baptist Church will be officiating the funeral services. Survivors include his beloved wife of 60 years, Shirley McEachern Dodson, son Richard Guy Dodson, wife Cindy, and grandsons Blaine and Brett of Gonzales; brother Jerrell, wife Penny, nieces Jennifer and Brandi and their families of Little Rock, AR. He was preceded in death by his parents, R.B. and Zenoma Dodson. Don graduated from Magnolia High in Magnolia, Arkansas in 1955, where he was a member of the National Honor Society and was on the football team and involved in other sports. He received his B.S. degree in Petroleum Engineering from LSU, worked 21 years for Chevron, and the remainder of his career for a series of independent oil companies through acquisitions and mergers, including C & K/Enstar, Union Texas, Nerco, LL&E, and Burlington, before retiring in 1998. He felt that the most gratifying part of his oil industry career was the wonderful people he met along the way. Upon retirement, Don moved from Houston back to Lafayette and enjoyed family, golf, hunting and fishing. He was a member of First Baptist Church and Oakbourne Country Club. Don was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by family and friends. The family would like to thank Don’s team of doctors, Dr. Brierre, Dr. Krawczyk, and Dr. Troy Martin, for the wonderful care they gave him throughout his illness. Also, many thanks to Hospice of Acadiana for the care they provided. Also, a big thank you goes out to our church family and all the others who prayed for Don.
