Effie Barthe Melancon

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, September 13, 2012 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Effie Barthe Melancon, 89, who passed away on September 9, 2012 at 1:05 am at Lafayette General Medical Center. Reverend Millard Boyer will conduct the funeral services. Entombment will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Melancon, a resident of Lafayette, LA, was the daughter of the late Ernest Joseph Barthe of Beau Chene, Louisiana and the former Elia Hanks of Acadia Parish, Louisiana. Effie was employed by Don's Seafood Restaurant for many years. She is survived by her daughter, Susie Curry Veazey and her husband John; her son, Woody Jean Sonnier and his wife Ann; seven step children, JoAnn Guilbeau, Yvonne Broadway, Yvette Melancon, Gerald Melancon, Madeline Joseph, Terry Melancon and Rodney Melancon; her sister, Elaine Barthe; her two brothers, Milton "Chink" Barthe and his wife Loretta, and Ashton Barthe and his wife Mazie. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; Michelle Sonnier Venable, Jerry C. Curry,Jr., Sonia Sonnier Cupp, Terri Lynn Curry, Debbie Sonnier, Tony Sonnier, Gina Sonnier and Tracey Sonnier; great grandchildren, Brittany, Bailey, Lacey, Joshua, Jacob, Ja'Khaila, Daniel A'rgenal, Daniel Sonnier, Luke & Jared; twenty three step grandchildren, and forty eight step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her three husbands, Horace Bergeron, Alfred Woodrow Sonnier, and Steve Melancon; her son, Benny Louis "Blue" Sonnier; two step sons, Steve J. Melancon, Jr., and Harold Melancon; one step daughter, Kathleen Guidry; one grandson, Benny Sonnier, Jr.; three sisters, Andrea "Toot" Guidroz, Ethel Jatho, and Mary Alice Brunet; three brothers, Elton "Lolo", Nolan "Papoon" and Calise John Barthe. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Wednesday from 10:00 am until 10:00 pm and on Thursday from 8:00 am until time of services. A rosary will be recited on Wednesday at 7:00 pm. Pallbearers will be Michael Barthe, Kevin Barthe, Heith Veazey, Tony Barthe, Darrin Venable and Edgar Jatho. Honorary Pallbearer will be Lane Barthe.
