Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, at a 1:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Lafayette, for Elaine Broussard Gutierrez, 87, who passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at her home in Lafayette. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Reverend Gilbert Dutel, Pastor of St. Edmond Catholic Church, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Elaine’s early years were spent in Breaux Bridge. She later met and married Golden (G.J.) Gutierrez, Jr. They made their home in Lafayette and raised five children. She was a great mom, homemaker, cook, seamstress and bargain shopper. Elaine loved hosting Sunday dinners, where she could share time with her children and grandchildren. Her favorite pastime was a weekly Bourre’ game with long-time friends. After G.J.’s retirement, she accompanied him on many travels in the U.S., Canada and Europe. Elaine was a people person who enjoyed a good chat and a laugh (and maybe a beer) with family, friends, neighbors or strangers. Summer afternoons were spent with G.J. relaxing in their pool. In her later years, she especially delighted in just sitting on her patio observing the beautiful birds on her feeder and flowers in her yard. Her faith was a constant source of strength, as was the love and support of her caregivers, who became like family to her. She is survived by her four children, Kandy Gutierrez Boss and her husband Dale; Brenda Gutierrez Hollier and her husband Rocky, Golden J. Gutierrez, III (Jay) and Tina Gutierrez Truxillo and her husband Tony; seven grandchildren, Buddy Hollier, Todd Ramsey, Tiffany Hollier, Jeremy Boss, Dusty Boss, Jennifer Gutierrez and Jordan Hollier; six great grandchildren; and one sister, Audrey Broussard Swink. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Golden J. Gutierrez, Jr.; one daughter, Nelleen Gutierrez Billeaud; one brother, Gerald Broussard; one sister, Verna Broussard Gabourel; and her parents, Lionel and Daisy Webre Broussard The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 in Delhomme Funeral Home on Bertrand from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM on Tuesday evening in the funeral home. Visiting hours will continue on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of service. The family would like to thank Mrs. Gutierrez's caregivers, Alice, Sib, Harriet, Eva and Agnes, for their compassionate care.
