Monique Burdin

Faye Monique Burdin, born November 4, 1945, in Crowley, Louisiana, passed away peacefully at home, leaving behind a legacy of devotion, compassion, and service to others. The daughter of Beulah Breaux Faulk and Lester Faulk, Monique spent her early years as part of a rice-farming family whose values of hard work and community shaped the foundation of her life. After graduating from high school, Monique began her adult life as a member of the Most Holy Sacrament community. It was during these formative years that she discovered her life’s calling: education. She served faithfully in ministry as a teacher for five years in Carencro, at St. Bernard School, and in the Diocese of New Orleans. Several of her students from the 9th Ward remained cherished lifelong friends, a testament to her ability to connect deeply and meaningfully with the young people in her care. In 1979, Monique married the love of her life, JJ Burdin. Together, they shared a partnership grounded in faith, service, and a mutual commitment to helping others. Her passion for education and children continued to flourish throughout her life. Monique dedicated 30 years to the Lafayette Parish Special Olympics as Coordinator and Director, touching countless lives with her leadership, empathy, and unwavering belief in the abilities of every child. She also proudly served on the Board of Directors of the Lafayette Education Foundation, where she especially loved participating in the award patrol honoring exceptional teachers whose work transformed students’ lives. Monique and JJ further expressed their commitment to education through their endowment of the Paul W. Burdin/BORSF Professorship in Business Administration 2 at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, in honor of their son. Monique is survived by her step-children, JJ Burdin, III and his wife Candice, and Claire Alvarado and her husband Danny; her grandchildren Ava, Elena, and Colette; her nephews Tommy Faulk and his wife Gretchen, Jeff Faulk and his wife Karen, Mike Faulk and his wife Flo, and Billy Faulk and his wife Kristi; her beloved goddaughter Monique Hoffmeister and her husband Jules; and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews, all of whom brought her great joy. She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother Chester; her sisters Julie, Patsy, and Marie; her son Paul; and her devoted husband, JJ. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 in Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers. Fr. Louis Richard will officiate the funeral services. Assisting Fr. Richard, in the funeral service, will be Elaine Zuschlag and Joseph Guidry. Lectors will be Andrea Faulk Guidry and Lisa Breaux. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 from 9:00 AM until the time of service. Pallbearers will be Danny Alvarado, David Baker, Ben Faulk, Chester Faulk, JW Faulk, and Winston Faulk.
