Gabriel Joseph Abshire

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, April 18, 2024, in St. Pius X Catholic Church for Gabriel Joseph Abshire, 34, who passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024. Reverend James Brady, Pastor of St. Pius X Catholic Church, will be Celebrant of the Mass, and will conduct the funeral services, along with Deacon Phil Lizotte and Deacon Sammy Russo. The burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park, immediately following the services. Gabriel grew up in a loud and loving home in Lafayette, Louisiana, and attended Our Lady of Fatima Elementary School, St. Thomas More High School and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Affectionally named Gabe, he could always be counted on to instigate a prank and had a real knack for saying outlandish things at the worst possible time. He truly worked at his humor in the same way he worked on cars…never ending. He was generous with his time and anything else he could offer. Gabe loved his family without bounds. No words can express how deeply Gabe will be missed. He is survived by his cherished fiancée, Katie Lynn Abshire; his beloved children, Bailee and Brett Guidroz, and their much-loved and expected child. Also survived by his parents, Barbara and LeRoy Abshire; siblings, Matthew Abshire, Catherine and Jeremy Ellender and daughter Olivia, Dominic Abshire, Christian and Theresa Abshire and daughter Lucy, Jonathan and Scarlet Abshire and son Thomas, Nicholas and his fiancé Madysen Johnson, Gauge Potier, and Hunter Potier. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Lucy Guillot, LeRoy Abshire Sr. and Leola Schexneider; two unborn siblings; and his best friend, Eric Domingue. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at St. Pius X Catholic Church on Thursday, April 18, 2024, beginning at 8:30 AM. A Rosary will be prayed at 9:30 AM in the gathering area of church on Thursday morning. Visitation will continue, following the Rosary, until the time of service. Pallbearers will be Matthew Abshire, Dominic Abshire, Jeremy Ellender, Christian Abshire, Nicholas Abshire and Devin Elter. Honorary pallbearers include Brett Guidroz, Jonathan Abshire, Gauge Potier and Hunter Potier.
