Genevieve Scott

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, March 7, 2008 at St. Mary's Catholic Church for Mrs. Genevieve LaGrange Scott, 88, who succumbed peacefully in her sleep from the effects of a heart attack at the RHD Medical Center in Dallas, Texas on Sunday, March 3, 2008 following a lengthy but determined battle with Parkinson's Disease and its side effects. Reverend Gary Schexnayder, Pastor of St. Michael Catholic Church, will be the celebrant and will conduct the funeral services. Con-celebrant will be Reverend Jose Robles, Pastor of St. Francis Cabrini Church in Alexandria. Interment will be held in St. Francis Regis Catholic Cemetery in Arnaudville, Louisiana. Genny, born November 23, 1919, was the daughter of the late Louise Thibodaux LaGrange and the late Regis LaGrange who resided in Arnaudville, Louisiana. She married the late George E. Scott from Stamford, New York. Following a stint in the Army Air Corps, the couple returned to Arnaudville to successfully manage LaGrange's Clothing Store for 40 years. In 1986, George and Genny moved to Lafayette, Louisiana. In January 2006, following George's death, Genny moved to Dallas, Texas where she resided at the time of her death. Genny earned a Batchelor of Science degree in Business Education from the College of Sacred Heart in 1941. She was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lafayette, and loved to participate with the church's Rosary Group. Genny utilized her artistic capability, learning to play the violin at an early age. Those who knew her would characterize her as innovative, creative, and very adept with her sewing machine and a variety of hand tools, including her beloved handsaw and hammer. She loved the outdoors, and spent many hours fishing and enjoying nature at her second home on False River, as well as accompanying George and other Cruising Cajun motor home members on extended outings around the country. Genny also loved to match wits with the stock market, an effort she continued well into her later years. Survivors include her brother, Herman LaGrange and his wife, Karen; two sisters, Laurie Durio and her husband, A.D., and Gladys Laporte and her late husband, Laurent, all of Arnaudville, Louisiana; three daughters: Anne Brown and her husband, Bob, Harriet Robinette, all of Dallas, Texas, and Faye Aycock and her husband, Jeff of Lafayette, Louisiana; and five grandchildren John Robinette of Brooklyn, New York, Robby Brown and Katherine Brown of Dallas, Texas; Scott Aycock of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Mark Aycock of Lafayette, Louisiana. The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Thursday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm and continue on Friday from 9:00 am until the funeral service. A rosary will be recited Thursday at 7:00 pm in the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Robby Hughes, Robby Brown, John Robinette, Scott Aycock, Mark Aycock, Jeff Aycock, and Bob Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be Herman LaGrange and Gerald Guidry. It is requested any memorial contributions on Genevieve's behalf be directed to Parkinson Research and Education Fund, Ochsner Clinic Foundation, Philanthropy Department, 1514 Jefferson Highway, Brent House Suite 240, New Orleans, Louisiana 70121.
