Genora Fontenot

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at 10:00 am at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist for Genora Phillips Fontenot, 81, who passed away peacefully on Monday, November 24, 2014 at 1:20 pm at her residence surrounded by her family. Reverend Chester Arceneaux, Pastor of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, will be Celebrant of the Mass. Gift Bearers will be Billy Babineaux and Paula Cormier. Readers will be Nadine Huval and Joe Santa Maria. Musical Selections will be sung by Jodi Bollich, accompanied by Tom Niel, organist. Burial will take place in Calvary Mausoleum. Genora, a resident of Lafayette, LA was the daughter of the late Lonnie J. Phillips and the former Amy Bolson Phillps. Mrs. Fontenot resided in Lafayette for most of her life. While raising three children, she worked in the family business with her husband Gene and continued working with her son Mark until her late 70's. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She enjoyed traveling with her late husband and her garden was the envy of the neighborhood. She is survived by her children, Monica F. Santa Maria and husband Joseph, Mark A. Fontenot and wife Stephanie and Deborah F. Eastin; her three grandchildren, Matthew Burke Eastin, Meggin E. Eastin and Elliott Christopher Fontenot; her sisters, Mary R. Trahan and Dorothy P. Mouton and her brothers, Johnnie G. Phillips and wife Rudell and Thommie B. Phillips and wife Carol. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of forty eight years Gene Fontenot. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home Bertrand on Drive Tuesday, November 25, 2014 from 12:00 pm until 8:00 pm. A Rosary will be recited at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, evening in the funeral home. Visiting hours will continue Wednesday, November 26, 2014 from 8:00 am until the time of service. Pallbearers will be Michael Thibodeaux, Lane Picard, Mark "Aubrey" Cole, Sheriff Mike Couvillon, Joel Broussard, Alex Mahfouz. Honorary Pallbearers will be Joe Santa Maria, Malcolm Martin, Ted Edwards, Sheriff Donald Breaux, Jimmy Martin, Matt Hillman, Matthew Eastin, Jeff Landry, Keith Howard and Dennis Eastin. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston Street, Suite 200, Lafayette, LA 70503.
