George A. Marken

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2015, at a 2:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Maurice, for George A. Marken, Jr., 85, who passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at Lafayette General Medical Center. Entombment will be held in St. Alphonsus Mausoleum in Maurice. Reverend O. Joseph Breaux, Pastor of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Maurice, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 in St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Maurice, from 9:00 AM until the time of service, with a Rosary will be prayed at 11:00 AM. George was a native of Church Point and lived most of his life in the Acadiana area. He graduated from DePaul University in Chicago with a Degree in Sociology. He worked in the insurance industry and for the past twenty years he worked as a courtesy clerk in Albertson's on Johnston Street in Lafayette. He was an avid golfer, reader of WWII history and an LSU fan, but was generally a sports fan at heart. He loved fishing and spending time barbecuing for family and friends. George will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his beloved wife 38 years, Renella Comeaux Marken; children, George Marken, III and his wife Rachelle, Patricia Marken, Mary Marken, Victoria Hogan and Dani Robinson and her husband Robbie; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; step-children, Lisa Vincent and her husband Dennis, Denise Broussard, Jeffery Lajaunie, Renee Lajaunie; six step-grandchildren; and one step-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Marken, Sr. and Bethana Jagers Marken; and an infant son. Pallbearers will be Michael Broussard, Tyler Vincent, Cody Griggs, George Marken, III, Dennis Vincent and Denise Broussard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Mr. Marken's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
