A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 am on Friday, May 24, 2013 at Holy Cross Catholic Church for Herbert L. LeBlanc, Sr., who passed away on May 21, 2013 at Emeritus after a valiant and lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Reverend Howard Blessing, Pastor of Holy Cross Catholic Church will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Fountain Memorial Cemetery . He is survived by two sons: Herb LeBlanc, Jr. and his wife, Dale, Lynn LeBlanc and his wife Darlene, and his daughter, Sheri Basey and her husband Guy; seven grandchildren: Travis LeBlanc and his wife Jennifer; Ryan LeBlanc and his wife, Petrina; Mitchell Basey and his wife Melody, Laura Sign and her husband, Christopher; Shawn Basey, Brandi LeBlanc and Tessi LeBlanc; five great-grandchildren: Bryant LeBlanc, Rebecca LeBlanc, Serenity Basey, Hampton Sign and Charlie Sign. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of sixty-seven years, Doris Wise LeBlanc, his parents, Felix and Lola LeBlanc and his sister, Joyce Gilmore. Herb was a native of Lake Charles, Louisiana and a resident of Acadiana for fifty-six years. After graduating from Lake Charles High School, Herb entered the Navy and served during World War II. His professional career was in outside sales of maintenance materials and he continued to do this that he loved until he was seventy-five. Throughout his territory he was known by many for his hat, jokes, booming voice and his big cigar. He served the Holy Cross Catholic community as an usher at the 9:00 am Mass for over twenty-five years. In addition, he was active in the Knights of Columbus. The last thirty-five years of his life was spent with his beloved Doris making her happy by taking her fishing, working in the garden, joining in family competitions at croquet, yard darts and horseshoes while sharing his bar-b-cueing skills with his children and grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church beginning at 10:00 am immediately preceding the 11:30 am Memorial Mass.
