Isaac Gurney

I, Isaac McKnight Gurney, otherwise known as Bud, was born in Baton Rouge, La. My precious mother, Mildred Louise Gurney and father Isaac Calvin Gurney have both preceded me in death. I have one sister Sylvia Hayes and her husband Richard who currently live in Daytona Beach, Fl. I am leaving behind the love of my life, Shirley Nance Gurney; my two children, Lisa Lyn Gurney Ferguson and her husband Wallace Ferguson of Maurice, La and Glenn Michael Gurney of Lafayette; three grandchildren, James Elliot Belaire, Devin James Belaire and Calvin Gurney, all of Lafayette; two great-grandchildren, Dre' James Belaire of Lafayette and Jayden James Belaire of Houston, Tx; four step-children, Connie Girard and Phil Girard of Lafayette and Trudie Thibodeaux and Kelly Scott Girard of Atlanta, Ga. I grew up and graduated from Istrouma High School in Baton Rouge, La. I was privileged to attend and graduate from Georgia Tech University. I received a B.A. in Chemical and Mechanical Engineering. After graduating I moved to Lafayette where I started Acadia Service Company which I proudly owned and operated until I sold the business and retired at the age of 70. I was a member of Lambda Chi fraternity. I acquired some wonderful lasting friendships from high school and college and have thoroughly enjoyed my time visiting, sharing jokes and staying in touch. I was an active member of First United Methodist Church and have attended there as well as Asbury Methodist Church, as long as I was able, and met some wonderful people there. Some of my fondest times were spent with my children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sharing this time together brought me so much joy. My devoted, loving wife Shirley and I (affectionately known as Suzie and Al) spent an amazing 21 years together. We enjoyed doing anything, as long as it was together. We could really "cut a rug" on the dance floor. We loved to travel and enjoyed swimming and were partial to beautiful scenery. We were totally committed to our health. Eating healthy was a way of life for us and our daily workouts at Red's were a real treat. I fought a valiant and lengthy fight against this awful thing called cancer. Unfortunately, I have finally lost the battle. If you are reading this, you will know that I have gone to my final resting place where I will spend eternity in God's glory. I may have lost the battle, but in the end..... I am the winner. Shirley and my family would like to invite you to join them at Delhomme's Funeral home for a short gathering of family and friends on Wednesday evening, July 31, 2013 at 4:00pm in the chapel with the funeral service immediately following at 6:30pm. There will be no viewing of my body as it will be cremated. They will have some great memories to share via photos and plenty of stories, all of which I'm sure will be true. When the Fall weather arrives, my loved ones will go to my favorite place, Indian Creek, for a celebration of my life.
