A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church for James F. Bourgeois, 71, who passed away peacefully at his residence on Thursday, August 5, 2021. Survivors include his wife, Christine Bourgeois, two daughters, Alicia Bourgeois, and Amy Bourgeois and her husband, Stephen Davis, and his beloved granddaughter, Emma Bourgeois, two sisters, Genevieve Bourgeois of Lafayette and Catherine Bourgeois Mason of Abita Springs; two brothers, Dr. Anthony “Buddy” Bourgeois, Jr. of College Station, TX., and Charles Bourgeois of Lafayette; godchild Katie Player and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn Courquet and Anthony Bourgeois, Sr. and his sister Eleanor Bourgeois. He will be dearly missed not only by family and close friends, but by all of those who knew him. He will be remembered for his love of nature, Louisiana Native Irises, bird watching, and working all the puzzles in the newspaper before reading the newspaper from front to back. He was a graduate of Cathedral-Carmel High School of Lafayette in 1968 and a graduate of University of Southwestern Louisiana with a Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Management. He worked for the State of Louisiana (DOTD) for 36 years and retired in 2013. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Chapel - Scott on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 from 9:00 AM until the time of service. A Rosary will be prayed at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Terry Leger, Michael Leger, Justin Leger, Alex Player, Eddie Bercier and Michael Pothier. Honorary Pallbearers will be Charlie Bourgeois, Anthony “Buddy” Bourgeois, Stephen Davis and Tim Splawn. After 14 years of battling cancer, the family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, the nurses of Hospice of Acadiana, for their supportive and tender care, Dr. DeeDee Luke, and family, friends and neighbors for the help, food, cutting the grass and guarding the house on the many out of town hospital trips.
