Judy Colomb

A Memorial Mass for Mrs. Judy Colomb, 80, will be held at 10:30AM on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lafayette. A native of Lafayette, Judy raised four children and one husband. Except for a 13 year extended honeymoon in the heart of tornado alley in Wichita Falls, TX, where her four children were born, Judy has been a life-long resident of Lafayette and parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic church, with her husband Glenn of 59 years. Judy is survived by her husband, Glenn Colomb; her children, Lisa and Bill Summers of Mandeville, Keri and Terrell (Murph) Lavergne of Swords, Kevin and Mindy Colomb of Baton Rouge, and fourteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lori Colomb Saab; her parents, Joseph and Gladys Begnaud and her sister, JoAnn Begnaud Gankendorff. Judy had and shared a gift of faith. She was active in ministries in her beloved St. Mary’s parish. If you didn’t know her, but you found yourself revealing your life story and your anxieties to a perfect stranger at the grocery checkout line, chances are, you had an encounter with Judy. Judy always loved sports and a good competition. She cherished childhood memories of holding her own playing baseball with the neighborhood boys, and of playing basketball for Lafayette High in 1953. Later in life, she maintained a competitive passion through a long and active tennis career, and through countless hours of watching her grandchildren compete in various school sports. While always a UL supporter and advocate, LSU sports observing and commentating were two of her passions, with LSU coaches, Athletic Directors, and U.S. Supreme Court Justices often receiving unsolicited advice. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The family wishes to thank the skilled and compassionate nurses, doctors, and all caregivers at The Heart Hospital of Lafayette. Judy was passionate. She loved God and her Faith.
