Kathleen Mary Cazaubon

Mary Kathleen Levis Cazaubon, age 87, passed away Sunday, August 31, 2014 at her home in Lafayette, LA. Born on February 16, 1927, Kathleen was the beloved wife of the late Francis L. Cazaubon, Jr. and resided in Arabi, LA for most of her life. She is survived by her children Kathy C. Dauterive, Jean C. Dupas, Gayle C. Buckley, Jill A. Cazaubon, and Ralph F. Cazaubon. Kathleen was the well-regarded mother-in-law of Rene C. Dauterive, Jr., Gerald C. Dupas, Robert A. Buckley, Sr., and Denise D. Cazaubon. Affectionately known as “Grannie,” she will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren: Stacie D. Seube, Andree D. Addison, Rene C. Dauterive, III, Jean Paul Dupas, Monique D. Blossom, Robert A. Buckley, Jr., Ryan D. Buckley, Christine B. Ward, Brandon F. Cazaubon, Madison D. Cazaubon, and Caitlyn Listz. Kathleen was the delighted great-grandmother of Aaron Seube, Collin Seube, Zachary Addison, Jr., Katherine Addison, Brady Buckley, and Grace Ward. She is also survived by her sisters Bonnie L. Burkert, Betty L. Ansardi, and Lynne L. Hart. Mrs. Cazaubon was predeceased by her parents Walter Joseph Levis and Thelma Roy Levis, as well as her brothers Walter J. Levis, Jr. and Ronald J. Levis. As a young girl in Old Arabi, she delivered The St. Bernard Voice, her maternal grandfather’s newspaper. She played CYO sports and also worked at Jackson Barracks during WWII as a teenager. Kathleen grew to be an independent, clever and fun-loving woman with a quick wit and endearing sense of humor. She was an advocate of women’s rights before it became fashionable. After her marriage on April 24, 1948, she became a homemaker and devoted mother, spending many years supporting her children’s activities. Sensible and resourceful, Kathleen generously shared her time and talents with family and friends, and enjoyed opportunities to socialize with them over the years. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Memorial Gathering on Friday, September 5, 2014 from 10:00 to 12:00am. at the St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 601 W. Virtue Street, Chalmette, LA. Interment will immediately follow at St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
