Leonise Valentine Champagne Legendre

Funeral Services will be held at a 2:00 pm Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, May 16, 2011 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Leonise Valentine Champagne Legendre, 99, who passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at her granddaughter's home, where she resided for the past 14 years. Reverend Allen Breaux, Associate Pastor of St. Theresa/Benedict, will be the Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Interment will take place at Lake Lawn Mausoleum in Metairie, LA on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at 1:00 pm. Mrs. Legendre, affectionately known as "Maw Maw" was born on Valentine's Day in 1912. She was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Mary Parish. She will always be remembered for her faith and her generous spirit in caring for her loved ones. She was a homemaker and native of Thibodaux, LA, graduating from St. Charles High School. After her marriage, she moved to New Orleans, where she resided for over 60 years. She is survived by her granddaughter, Monique Legendre Cloutier and her husband, Jac Cloutier; her great-grandchildren, Charles and Jacqueline Cloutier; her daughter-in-law, Cydnie St. Marie Legendre; step-granddaughter, Angela Vincent and step great-granddaughter, Sophia Broussard. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 60 years, Peter Simon Legendre; beloved son, Byron Peter Legendre; daughter-in-law, Barbara Legendre Tarvin; her parents, Valerie and Marcellite Melancon Champagne, her sisters, Ida C. Legendre, Celia C. Diaz, Cecile C. Knobloch and her brothers, Alois Champagne, Sr. and Noah Champagne. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Monday from 9:00 am until time of services. Pallbearers will be her nephews, Darryl Champagne, C. J. Knobloch, Alois Champagne, Jr., Durel Legendre, Marcus Eichhorn and Terry Legendre. Honorary pallbearers will be Jac and Charles Cloutier. The family wishes to thank her caregivers for their devoted care, especially Barbara Johnson, Jackie Weaver, as well as all of her other caregivers and Concepts of Care.
