Funeral Services will be held at a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church for Leroy James Coulter, 96, who passed away on September 19, 2011 at 1:05 am at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center. Reverend Edward Duhon, Associate Pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be granddaughters, Kelly Duplantis and Dr. Amie Shannon. Jodie Bollich, organist and soloist, will sing the following selections for the services: "Wind Beneath My Wings", "The Old Rugged Cross", "Amazing Grace", "Be Not Afraid" and "Hail Mary, Gentle Woman". Burial will take place in Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery. Mr. Coulter, a resident of Lafayette, LA, was the son of the late Dominic J. Coulter of Lockport, Louisiana and the former Uranie Sonnier of Youngsville, Louisiana. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. Leroy James "Jim" Coulter was born in New Orleans, LA on June 26, 1915 and grew up in St. Mary and Iberia Parishes. He passed away on Monday September 19, 2011 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center. He was a resident of Maison de Lafayette. Jim was a veteran of military service having served with the U.S. Navy SP's during World War II at Treasure Island, CA. He was a retired member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), retiring in 1980. He worked in Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi for various contractors. Prior to joining IBEW, he worked at Billeaud Sugar Refinery in Broussard as a watchman and electrician. He was a resident of Broussard for many years and had been living in Lafayette since May 1967. He is survived by four daughters, Patricia Hollier and husband Thomas, Irene Bernard and husband Harvey, Jane Breaux and husband Malcolm, and Denise Ann Lejeune and husband Russell all of Lafayette LA; one son, Melvin J. Coulter and wife Mary of Maurice, LA; sixteen grandchildren; twenty four great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Mabel Landry Coulter in 1954 and his second wife Denise Marie Landry Coulter and one daughter, Mary Helen Judice and grandson Todd Andrew Hollier. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Broussard on Tuesday from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. A rosary will be recited on Tuesday evening at 6:30 pm in the funeral home. Visitation will continue on Wednesday at 8:00 am until time of services. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Ben Bordelon, Mike Coulter, John Bernard, Ryan Lejeune, Matthew Lejeune and Ashley Breaux. Honorary will be his grandsons, Tyler Arceneaux, Cory Bordelon, Joey Bernard, Robley Lejeune and Mark Lejeune. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Maison de Lafayette for their special care given to Jim. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was a good neighbor and was quick to lend a helping hand to one and all.
