Lizze Broussard

Lizzie Duhon Broussard, 89, died peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 5, 2008, in her daughter's home in Virginia. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm at Mrs. Broussard's lifelong home church, St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Milton, with readings by Jeanne and Daniel Lapointe. Interment will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Mrs. Broussard, a native of Milton and Maurice, was lovingly known by friends and family as Meon or Taunt Bee and was best known for her joie de vivre, her hospitality, and her loving heart. Mrs. Broussard is survived by her only daughter, Donna Broussard Segura of Check, Virginia; two granddaughters, Tali Alleman of New Iberia and Tanya Dalton of Willis, Virginia; and four great grandchildren, Bailey, Elijah, Mason and London. She is also survived by her niece, Peggy Dartez Parker of Baton Rouge; and three nephews, Jimmie and Walter 'NuNu' Broussard of Milton and Robert 'T-Say' Dartez of California. She spent many years being cared for by her daughter and granddaughter, Tali at the family home in Maurice, with her beloved first great grandson, Bailey 'T-Canoque', playing in her yard, and she spent the last two years of her life living with her daughter and her granddaughter, Tanya in Virginia, with four generations under one roof, where her last great grandson, Mason slept with her every night from his birth until she neared death. Their 'Maw Maw' will be dearly missed by all of the grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 70 years, Joseph Ellis 'T-Lis' Broussard. Meon and T-Lis were well known and much loved by generations of family members and countless friends in Acadiana and spent many happy years together, growing their garden, canning figs, raising cattle, going to dances, and hosting family gatherings at their home on Woodlawn Road in Maurice. Grieved family members are comforted by the knowledge that they are now reunited, dancing together again in heaven, as some have said. Mrs. Broussard was also preceded in death by her two sisters, Nella Broussard and Agnes Dartez; two nephews, Stanley Broussard and Jeffrey Broussard; and her parents, Valerian and Adonia Duhon, all of Milton. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home in Maurice on Wednesday from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm and on Thursday from 10:00 am until the time of service. A French rosary will be recited by the St. Joseph Ladies Altar Society on Wednesday at 6:30 pm in the funeral home. Special thanks to the extended family, St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Nola Broussard for hosting the reception after the funeral at her home on Espasie Road in Milton. Pallbearers include her great nephews, Daren Broussard, Kevin Broussard, Errol Broussard, Eddie John Broussard, Robert Juan Dartez, and her nephew Johnny Parker. Honorary pallbearers include Allan Dalton, Johnny Alleman and Marshall Marceaux. The family wishes to thank Good Samaritan Hospice of Christiansburg, Virginia, who provided compassionate care in her last weeks of life following her stroke. The family also wishes to thank Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette and Woods Funeral Home of Floyd, Virginia, who worked together to bring her home.
