Mamie Douglass Burgin

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, September 10, 2006 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Mamie Douglass Burgin, 91, who passed away September 8, 2006 at Lafayette General Medical Center. Interment will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Garden in Lafayette. Rev. Ira Robinson, Pastor of Visitation at Asbury Methodist Church will officiate at the services. Musical selections will be played by Lee and Jan Cook and violinist Lauren Baker. Mrs. Burgin, the daughter of the late John Rollins Douglass and the former Mary Bland was a native of New Orleans, La and resided in Lafayette. She belonged to Asbury United Methodist Church. She also belonged to Daughters of American Revolution, Daughters of Colonial Wars and P.E.O. She was a founding member of the Pink Ladies at Lafayette General Medical Center and a lifetime member of the Petroleum Club. Mamie was a mother and 'Grandmom' and made her life a gift to everyone. Her love was a shared meal; her time, never too precious to forego being with another; her energy, never too spare to forego an expression of gratitude and appreciation; her wisdom, clear to all. She was always there for us. Her love was unconditional. Thank all of you for the love you gave to this gentle woman we were so blessed to have as our mother and grandmother. Survivors include three daughters, Brenda B. Hargrove and husband, Robert, of Lafayette, Mary Elizabeth 'Lib' Guercio and husband, Thomas J., of The Woodlands, TX and Betty Lindberg of Lafayette; three sons, William Douglass and wife, Ann, of Baton Rouge, Dr. John Bland and wife, Susan, of Crowley and Dr. David Rollins and wife, Dr. Helene Augustin, of Lafayette; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Lorena Burgin Doerries Denson and Doris Burgin; and her loving caregivers, Dorothy Francis and Gloria Briscoe. Preceded in death by her parents; her husband, W.H. 'Dutch' Burgin; two sisters and three brothers. Visitation hours will be observed on Sunday from 10:00 am until the time of service. Pallbearers will be Mike Burgin, Korey Burgin, Dan Burgin, Steven Burgin, Robert Guercio, Tommy Del Guercio and Phil Mayers, Jr..
